Other / AV1 Video Playback funky
« on: April 29, 2023, 01:19:46 PM »
Got a funky one for you, may be simple too.

Playing back any videos with the AV1 video format flickers / skips heavily when using just about anything but VLC to play it.

Sound playback is fine in all the media players though.

Using kernel 6.3, tried other kernels with same thing.

System should be PLENTY fast to do av1 playback (not even encoding).

System Specs:

CPU:  Intel 13600K
Mobo:  ASRock Z790 Riptide
RAM:  32GB DDR5 6400
GPU:  AMD 6950
Sound Card:  Asus Strix Raid

On Topic / Security Keys Like Yubikey and such
« on: April 29, 2023, 09:32:51 AM »
Curious if anybody else uses a hardware based security key for linux and other things for mfa stuffs?

I'm not talking about the 2fa programs on the phones but actual hardware keys like Yubikey and such.

I just bought the Yubikey 5c NFC and its fantastic!

Fooling around with it right now.

Off Topic / New Thunderbird v9x?
« on: November 07, 2021, 05:21:58 PM »
Just curious if I should just download this from the thunderbird website or wait for LL to update their package to the 9x version.

It has a ton of new exchange, and webdav/caldav/etc... sync things in it which is useful for me.

« on: July 21, 2021, 03:13:23 PM »
Should have this strange device in within a day or 2 and will be attempting to put linux lite on it.

I'll let you know how it turns out or any questions as I am not a linux expert but can hobble around better in linux than I was last year :D

They do have an Ubunut image to put on it but rather put LL on it.

I bought the i7 model.

Older or newer or one or neither anymore?

On Topic / Lenovo 13 AMD Laptop works flawlessly!
« on: May 23, 2021, 10:39:16 AM »
Just a heads up.  I get a lot of laptops in my shop and its hard to find one that works 100% or almost 100% with linux right off the bat.

Just wanted to let you know that the Lenovo 13 AMD Ryzen 4750 Pro works flawlessly with LL.

Even some of the dell ones they say are fully compatible are not but this beast is.

Sound / Weird Sound Internitent Issue
« on: April 09, 2021, 09:43:06 PM »
I have a very weird intermittent sound issue.

When I play youtube no issues at all.  Sound plays without interuption.

When using smplayer or clementine or anything else I get very intermitent sound.  It stops every so often.  Then if I go to a youtube page and play it plays great.  Then go back to smplayer or whatever else and it starts playing for about 20-30 seconds then stops again.  Then I hit play on youtube and stop it for a second.  Then it works on the other programs for a random ammout of time again.

Very weird.

Sound Card: Creative AE7

On Topic / I would like to pay you every time a new version comes out.
« on: September 16, 2020, 09:31:46 AM »
Just like a couple other linux distros or windows does.  And/or how many computers I install it on.

Right now I have LL 5 on my work laptop and work desktop.  But also when I sell clients used computers with it installed I would also like to send you money too.

Any time you come out with a new version I would like to pay you for your hard work.

Jerry, you are doing a fantastic job!

I don't expect any support but you always help out when needed on the forum.  Even my stupid questions.  You rock!

Installing Software / [ SOLVED ] VMware Workstation 16 New?
« on: September 15, 2020, 10:00:46 AM »
So the new VMware workstation 16 came out the other day and I'm trying to get it installed.

Unfortunately I still need windows to run some programs for work since they wont play nice with wine.

I'm using LL 5.0 with kernel 5.7.0 from the LL Tweaks.

"After installation I click on VMware Workstation and it gives me this error.
Before you can run VMware, several modules must be compiled and loaded into the running kernel
GCC 5.4.0 was not found."

I don't want to do anything that breaks anything.  Any suggestions would be welcome.

System Specs:
AMD x570 Chipset, AMD Ryzen 3800x, 32GB DDR4 4000 RAM, AMD 5700XT Video Card, 1TB M.2 PCIe 4x drive

I have a Dell G5 with Ryzen 4800H w/built in Vega iGPU AND Radeon 5600M 6GB video card built in.

When I put in the boot stick it always stops at "amdgpu error fail to stop psp ring"

Any ideas?  Dying to get linux on this beast of a machine.

Video Cards / AMD Firepro W7100 and AMD drivers on LL 5.0?
« on: June 08, 2020, 10:05:43 AM »
I just installed 5.0 on my work desktop and am loving it so far!

Everything works great out of the box.

Question about the Video drivers, especially the AMD ones.

I know NVIDIA has its own proprietary drivers that you have to install but AMD does also but doesn't look easy like installing the NVIDIA one.

What is the best way to install the Firepro W7100 drivers from AMDs site?  I am only seeing Ubuntu 18.04 being supported for it and not the one the new LL is based off of?

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Also thank you for all your hard work Jerry and the gang!

Installing Linux Lite / [ SOLVED ] Installing onto a USB stick for a home server advice?
« on: May 25, 2020, 04:55:25 PM »
So I'm retiring my old server, a HP DL380 G4 with Windows Server 2012, at my home.

I bought a used dell poweredge R330 w/ xeon 1270 v5 and 16GB of ECC ram for dirt cheap since the casing was damaged on the back but does not impact the server at all.  It only has 4x 3.5 sas hotswap bays on the front.  No big deal.  Very quiet 1u server, a rarity.

I updated all bios and firmware for ALL hardware, including the power supplies firmware.

It does have one internal usb port though and instead of wasting the 4x 6TB SAS3 drives I have, why not throw the OS onto a 64GB USB stick I have laying around.

Any advice on installing the OS onto the USB stick?  Things I should do or not do?
