404 Errors on update - PPA (wseverin) - JimmyJim - 07-09-2025
Hoping someone can help -- I've not been able to update for a while now. System works well other than that. Also included hardinfo.
And was wondering if there was some sort of a checklist published that might help the user troubleshoot updates? Something like common failures, solutions to try. Reading various solutions, I see recommended solutions that I really do not understand.

The version of Linux Lite on your system is based on an Ubuntu release named noble. You have added some software (wseverin) which is from a PPA (Personal Project Archive). The PPA for wseverin does not have a release compatible with noble. This conflict is causing the update process to error.
The incompatible wseverin software should be removed from the system.
After removing the wseverin software, ensure that the wseverin PPA reference is removed from the update list.
Removing the PPA reference from the update list should allow the update to run.

When using PPA software, it is important that the PPA has a release that is compatible with the OS.

As you are on Linux Lite 7.4, ensure that any PPA you consider installing offers a version compatible with Ubuntu noble.

Given the complex job, there are surprisingly few problems.
There have been attempts to produce 'master' threads which try to direct users to solutions. It is not possible to tell how effective these are (or were) and unfortunately, when the forum changed software, many of the links got broken.
When the Lite Updates application has a problem, it says

If any suggested solution is not understood, it is important to seek clarification, again, that is what the forum is for.

I should really do a data analysis to see how much of the Forum is taken up with PPA issues. I called for these years ago to be abolished. Kind of mad about this

Indeed. I have but an inkling as to the complexity of the system and have marvelled at how well it does work with all its complexity. I have tried to imagine all the engineering and collaboration that went/goes into it. Especially compared to another famous OS.
If you don't mind me asking, how much time was spent reading my post, the log, analysis and reply? This level of customer support makes me feel privileged, truly.
