Installing RDP app within Linux Lite LIVE - Alan_Wilts - 05-06-2025

My son want to try Linux so I suggested he try Linux Lite Live off a memory stick. One thing he needs to try is accessing his work computer. Under Windows he uses RDP.

Looks like RDP is not pre-installed in Linux Lite.

Q1: Is it possible to install to a Linux Lite Live? (albeit just for that session)
Q2: What RDP app is recommended? (similar to Win RDP, reliable, easy to configure)

Many thanks

A1 Yes, performance will not be as good as on a fully installed OS. I would guess that something like remote desktop is quite resource intensive.
A2 Lite software offers Teamviewer. Not needed to use it, but I think it is commercial software so it may not be licensed for using in a work scenario or the free version may be functionally restricted. Personally I've used Remina and some variations of VNC but not extensively (or recently enough) to recommend them.

Good luck.

I'd recommend having a look at https://www.dwservice.net/

I've long time ago abandoned Teamviewer for this Open Source solution and even use it to help people installing Linux Lite, i.e. they use an executable in a Linux Lite live environment to give me access.

In your case, if you don't have admin rights on your Windows box at work and/or policies prevent you from installing the DW agent, you still can run the executable (one file to download, no installation necessary) and access your machine from your Linux Lite live session without any additional installation just via the browser.

Hope that helps Smile
