[SOLVED] Suggestions on Password Managers - paul59 - 08-12-2014

Just a possible alternative to the one that is currently available via the LL install script, UPM:

http://upm.sourceforge.net/

It's main advantage is that it also works on Android so it's easy to sync your passwords (via dropbox for example) between your desktop and android phone. Has been very stable/reliable over the 2 years I've used it.

Roboform is available on Linux for free. At http://roboform.com click on Platforms, not Download, to get the applet for your browser. You can store 'Safe Notes' as well as passcards (login credentials), with or without password protection.

I'm currently testing http://Laverna.cc which allows storing a database on Dropbox through an API. Strangely, you don't have to log in! How do they do dat?

Cheers,
Lorne.

I know it's not free as in freedom but I find it difficult to break my reliance on Lastpass. One of these days I'll sync a pw database via Pulse (formerly Syncthing) or a home server. I'd prefer to get away from cloud services such as Dropbox for anything personal even if it's encrypted.

I m no fan of DropBox here too .

I'm a Lastpass user myself but this, Boxcryptor, looks like a clever encryption possibility for *any* cloud-based storeage. Has anyone given this a try?

A couple of things that stood out to me right away:

* Not open-source (Stallman would say not "Free"). This means you'll never know how it really works.
* Uses RSA encryption. RSA was paid millions by NSA to weaken the algorithms.
