Requests:App selection during setup / LL 'core' edition - pedrito - 03-02-2020 Hi all. I have been using LL for about 3 years now and i love it. In a professional context, I am more and more seriously considering to test its industrialized integration into a mixed MS/GNU corporate environment (managed with MS AD) in order to confront the challenge and the work it represents. Around this project, I have 2 suggestions / requests: - Could the system installer get an optional "custom applications" setting UI that would allow the user to remove some applications (or even better discard their installation) or install others during LL setup ? Moreover if this setting tool used an installation list that could be exported/imported it would be great: Admin or users could create default application profiles for computers with different usage. Useful in a corporate environment. - Is a "core" edition of LL meaningful in your opinion ? I mean a lighter edition that would only ship the the applications/system tools required to configure/support/secure the system but no office, media, or user accessories apps ? Well you can see these both requests are linked :-) Thx a lot for reading guys. Re: Requests:App selection during setup / LL 'core' edition - Valtam - 03-02-2020 Unfortunately, we don't have the voluntary manpower for creating different LL ISO's. If you represent a corporate, and you want large scale deployment, I can be hired to create a Core version for you. This is one of the ways the project can be supported. Re: Requests:App selection during setup / LL 'core' edition - Valtam - 03-03-2020 TO ALL: The OP has asked specifically for requests pertaining to LL. Keep it LL focused please. Thank you. Re: Requests:App selection during setup / LL 'core' edition - pedrito - 03-03-2020 Hi Jerry and thx for the answer. Unfortunately, I am at the very beginning of this test/project and I can hardly imagine i could get some funds from my company to be able to hire you as an external contractor / consultant at this stage. To clarify it, I am a desktop environment manager/architect dealing with the management of MS and mobile user environment in a company. For several reasons and various uses cases, I wish I could test the automated integration and configuration of other desktop systems within an AD domain / MS ecosystem. And for other reasons I am targeting small footprint distros with XFCE and i would rather stay away from RedHat/Fedora or Suse (and moreover I LOVE LL). But at the moment this project is not related to any formal request from my management. I only wish to setup a proof of concept and confront the relevance and the complexity of the task. So I would rather say this a personal project aiming to open new perspective in a professional and corporate environment. And I even can see potential benefits about it in a broader context than my current activity in this company. Anyway I liked your answer because this is the good way an editor can add new functionalities to his product while user/customer can get a tailored development that sticks to his needs. Do you think it is possible to "hire" you in a more private manner in exchange of a donation and a participation to the workload ? Of course I do not have the budget of a company and your expertise might be costly :-) But, well, it doesn't cost anything to ask, does it ? Again, thx for your reply. You really need a Linux server in between AD and any Linux client to prevent that. A lot of AD basic security measures are moot to a Linux client. On a corporate level this would probably be the first wall you hit. TC Re: Requests:App selection during setup / LL 'core' edition - pedrito - 03-03-2020 Hi Trinidad. You speak the truth. This is one of my first concern. and I have many :-)
Re: Requests:App selection during setup / LL 'core' edition - Valtam - 03-04-2020 [member=6317]pedrito[/member] PM me with exactly what you DO want from our current ISO (Menu by Menu) and any corporate branding, any applications/functionality you require added to the ISO, and I'll give you a quote. Re: Requests:App selection during setup / LL 'core' edition - pedrito - 03-04-2020 Hi Jerry. How are you ? Thx for your answer. Do you mind if we can audio-skype for 10 minutes because IMO direct exchange is quicker and more profitable than PM for that kind of discussion ? I can call you between 8 AM and 12 AM NZ time or 9 PM to 12 PM NZ time. Please PM me your preference and skype ID. Thx Regards Re: Requests:App selection during setup / LL 'core' edition - Valtam - 03-04-2020 Will do. Sent from my Mobile phone using Tapatalk |
