How do I rename an external drive? - m654321 - 03-30-2019 I have two identical external LaCie drives. When they are both plugged in (at the same time), only one "LaCie" is listed. I guess I need to rename them "LaCie1" and "LaCie2" to avoid this, but would appreciate if someone could advise on how to do it. I went to Menu Disks but couldn't find anything there to help.I'm unsure of the command line for this too. All help much appreciated, as ever Mike Re: How do I rename an external drive? - DeepThought - 03-30-2019 Go to menu - Disks Highlight the drive you want to change, then click on the cog wheel underneath the drive on the right. Click on "Edit Filesystem" and rename label. Re: How do I rename an external drive? - DeepThought - 03-30-2019 Sorry, forgot to mention the drive has to be unmounted before any changes can be made. Go to Disks, highlight the drive and just to the left of the cogs is a black square, click on that to unmount the drive. Then carry on with the cogs to rename as mentioned before. Then click on the play button that replaced the black square to remount, or just unplug/replug your external hdd. Select the correct drive from the device dropdown in right upper corner. It must be unmounted before you can rename it. Right click the partition and unmount it. When unmounted Right click the partition again and select "Label file system" |
