Can't Install Linux Lite on Acer Aspire - Gambler258 - 01-02-2019

Hello everyone

As title says, I just can't still Linux Lite OS on my Acer Aspire ES 17, which has Celeron N3350 CPU. I tried the options on the BIOS, but the Secure Boot can't be disable and it has UEFI mode.

It always get stuck on "installing grub2 package".

I wonder, If I just remove the hard drive, connect it on a PC and install Linux Lite on that same hard drive and then connect it on my laptop back again, will it work ?

Will I need to install drivers ?

Thanks in advance

Are you using the UEFI version of LL?

Nope, I was installing the regular version. I'll try this UEFI version. https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/linux-lite-software-development/uefi-build-test/msg44253/#msg44253
Although, my original question still stands.

Thank you!

The LL UEFI version should do it for you.. The regular (non UEFI/BIOS) version would work too if you can disable Secureboot and enable Legacy BIOS (turn off UEFI).

IF you're wanting to dual boot with Windows the LL UEFI version is probably best suited, as you would need to swap between UEFI and BIOS to lauinch the 2 OS's.

Some Acer Info's: Within there was mention of enabling added UEFI features - but I would try LL UEFI

Thank you very much

I tried out the UEFI version, but still the same result. Gets stuck on "installing grub2 package".

My Bios can't turn off UEFI, the only thing I can do is enable/disable "Secure Boot".

I was trying to install Linux Lite along side Windows Boot Manager.

Had to jog my memory a bit... I recall grub hanging way back..
Make sure the system is connected to the internet - preferably wired (early in the install you have the option to connect to WiFi but could be unstable until drivers are loaded).

With the UEFI LL build you can leave UEFI and SecureBoot enabled...

Alright

The installation of LL 4.2 UEFI build went through, it didn't get stucked on grub2, However, after it was finished, It went to a blank screen. It simply wont boot on LL. I had enabled/disabled Secure boot, no effect. I have also tried Erasing the disk and do a clean installation of LL.

In my boot options, when pressing F12 on my BIOS, It still shows the Windows Boot Manager, even though I have completely formatted the drive. How do I disable that.

I know this laptop was build for Windows only, but there must be a way to install Linux on this.

Any help would be appreciated.

Can't you change the order of boot and put the HDD in first position?

That’s the first thing I did but I’m afraid it doesn’t work like that. It takes to a menu to repair windows 10 and there is no Win SO in the HDD.

How did you actually install LL? Did you after booting go straight to installing LL or did you start LL first and then installed it from there? What options did it give you when installing. Did you wipe the harddrive in LL with partition drives before installing LL? I used the option delete in partition drives and then create new partition and format it to ext4. I have W10 and LL 4.2 install on one harddrive installed W10 first and then LL, used the something else option and did install from there.
