No display on HDMI out - phirephoto - 10-18-2018

So not sure if this is the right category, but I have HP laptop, AMD GPU, AMD CPU, HP 17-ak001ds . I've connected my TV to the HDMI out on the laptop, but can't get LL to recognize it.
Linux Lite 4.0 (GNU/Linux 4.15.0-36-generic x86_64)

Any suggestions on what to try?

Thanks Smile

Connect the TV and Laptop together. Make sure the TV has the right HDMI source. Reboot the Laptop. Open up settings and find >Display. There should be two displays listed. Select the TV display. You may have to adjust the resolution to suit you.

Yep, TV is selected to the right input, rebooted with HDMI connected, Display shows only the laptop. Sad

It sounds like you are asking how to output the tv/stream it, to the laptop, so the laptop screen shows the tv ?
You may need a TV capture card for this.
Another way is you can install Kodi from Menu>System>Lite Software
to watch tv and not need your laptop to be attached to the tv.

Sorry, no - other way around. Want PC to show on television, ie as an external monitor.

Okay, in Menu>Settings Display
Have you checked the "mirror" setting ?

There's no options. http://www.espphotography.com/display.jpg

The Default drop down has no choices in it.

Have you tried another HDMI cable to rule that out ?

God I'l laugh if it's that simple.. Pretty sure this one worked last I used it, but let me see if I can find another one or swap some things around and try.

Nope. Tested cable with another device and used a different cable that worked (on a nintendo switch), no go.

Not sure if it makes a difference - I boot with nomodeset as a kernel param - that's not affecting it is it?
