Question About Splash/Start Screen - mdiemer - 02-08-2018

Is there a way to change or modify the bright yellow screen? I don't know if that's the Start or Splash screen, but the light is too much for my photosensitive eyes. It's ok in the daytime, but at night I become like a cat, and need things darker.  I have looked around in Settings, but couldn't see a way to do this. This is actually my only complaint with Linux Lite. If there's no way to change it, I'll just shade my eyes, like I've been doing. I've installed f.lux, but that only kicks in after the system is started.

Thanks, Mike

Thanks, I'll try your suggestions. It's funny, I actually love the screen in the daytime, it doesn't look at all bright. but at night it's a different story. And I happen to be a night owl!

You are discussing the plymouth splash. See here to understand how to modify plymouth properly.

[member=5916]trinidad[/member], is there any reason that /usr/share/plymouth/themes/liteboot/background.png should not be edited in an image editor and saved with the same name? A copy could be made first as backup. Seems the simpler way if it is valid.

Thanks.

The Kernel needs to be updated after the image has been edited.
Once the image is edited *DO A BACKUP* of your system and make sure that there is no pending updates or reboot.
Then, like trinidad says in the "background-image-when-starting-'the-feather" thread above, open a terminal and do :
sudo update-initramfs -u

Cheers!

If the suggestions in this thread are helpful to others, it will have been worth it. however, I already decided to leave things as they are; I'm getting used to the yellow light. It's certainly preferable to that cataract-forming blue on the Windows 7 boot which I endured for so many years.

Yeah, Windows 10 is even worst color wise. I think the most stupid thing is the "Print Test Page" which is only blue and black now. I have a PNG and PDF of the Linux Print Test on my USB key so I can print a real test when I work on Windows Wink .

Gonna work on a little 4.x Splash this week end. Maybe you'll like it Wink
