Considering installing on Acer Travelmate 634LC - Sprintrdriver - 07-25-2017

Hi.

I have an old laptop with 500 Mb ram. Does anybody here have any experience installing Linux Lite on that laptop model?

Reason why I ask is that I have already tested out Peppermint OS on that same laptop, but I struggle with some issues (fresh install) - I mention two critical ones:
- Cannot shut down properly (must use power-button)
- Hang up after some idle time (completely freeze).

Because both Peppermint OS and Linux Lite both is based on Ubuntu, my question is: Should I expect same problems regardless of what distro I try to install, as long as the distroes is Ubuntu based?

Thanks

Those are some very low specs. I wouldn't be to hopeful of getting a good experience with LL on that laptop. I'd give Puppy a go.

A few years ago, I ran PeppermintOS on an Acer Aspire One and was starting to have problems, so I tried a load of small distros.
I found LL to run much better than Peppermint and was the best.
It's so easy for Ubuntu based distros, just to download the ISO to an usb stick and install, just make sure you install the 32 bit file.

You might be surprised  ;D

If it is sluggish, you can then try puppy or one of the other light ones.

Well - I already have installed LL on a Toshiba Satelite (from 2003) with a "whopping" amount of 768 MB RAM  Wink .

So far It run decent on that computer.

Thanks. I have now tested installing LL on that computer. It turned out not working at all.

The screen just goes pitch black when trying to boot, and it just never gets further. Lubuntu also sem to fail to boot.
The distro that I actually got to work is Pepprmint, Mint xfce and Bodhi.

Because that particular computer have only USB1, booting from usb (using boot-loader) takes forever, and it's not a happy process installing any os on that computer.
