Win10 guest flickers continually in LL3.2 host (Oracle Virtualbox v 5.1.10) - m654321 - 12-13-2016 I've installed Win10 Pro as a Virtual Machine (using Oracle Virtualbox), on an LL3.2 host, so that I can access my Epson scanner (via Win10) However the Win10 VM suffers continuous screen flicker when I move the mouse or touchpad cursor - I assume this is due to an 'app' or a 'display driver'. Task Manager does not flicker when opened. How do I fix screen flicker for a Win10 VM??? Mike Re: Win10 guest flickers continually in LL3.2 host (Oracle Virtualbox v 5.1.10) - firenice03 - 12-13-2016 Not sure what you have tried... Sometime the Extension pack and/or the Guest Additions may help.. The Extension Pack is fairly easy to add; although they do have to match version for version - EP and VBox.. This is added via preferences and the extensions section (I believe)... The guest additions are a bit different as the iso file is already within - Go to storage (add a controller if needed) then map a drive to the guestadditions.iso within the Oracle VBox folder (may need to search prior for location as I don't recall the exact Linux Path). Once mapped lunch the guest additions app from with in the guest machine. I know its fixed some graphic issues for XP and W7 so I assume the same W10... I think I've already got the guest editions (to give full-screen view) & matching extension pack (to give connectivity to USB drive & host's HDD) already installed correctly, as these seem to be doing their intended jobs. I had flicker problems & some sound (crackling) problems with Win8.1 too in VM: for me only Win7 and WinXP behaved as they should in VM, i.e. flicker-free & good quality sound. The reason I've ditched Win7 is because I'm having problems with the monthly roll-up updates - they don't appear to be installing as they should... I had a look at these links but couldn't find anything to solve the issue. I had a bit of a further think... usually the simplest solution is the one to try first... As Task Manager and Microsoft Office apps open in the Win10 VM without flickering, this suggested to me that the flicker may be due to a display driver and not an application. So, bearing this in mind, I went & opened up Oracle VM VirtualBox Manager, clicked on the Display icon on the left hand side, and unticked the box for Enable 3D Acceleration (I recalled that this feature was highlighted as experimental during the earlier Win7 & 8.1 VM installs that I'd done - so it might be the culprit). I left the 2D Video Acceleration as it was, already enabled. The Win10 VM now works full-screen without any flicker ![]() ![]() ![]() Mike |
