LL 3.0 installs fine but won't boot looking for file name - Mel_B - 10-02-2016 LL 3.0 installed fine. I put the boot loader in its root partition /dev/sda8. on my primary OS I ran (update grub) it found the ll 3.0 boot loader on sda8 When I boot sda8 using grub 2 I get a error that it is looking for a file. I had High Hopes for this version of LL, but like a couple of previous versions it has been a waste of my time down loading and installing. The graphic card problem was solved in this version, but now it won't boot. Why??? what is it looking for?? Can someone explain what is going on? I have several other Distros and they all multi boot fine. why not LL. Mel Re: LL 3.0 installs fine but won't boot looking for file name - Valtam - 10-02-2016 We'll need the exact error message please. Re: LL 3.0 installs fine but won't boot looking for file name - Mel_B - 10-02-2016 The exact error message was (File Name Expected) I solved the problem. for some reason it was looking for sdb8 as per the grub that was picked up from sda8. I used Super Grub and took the grub from sda8 and put it in the mbr. It now boots up fine, but I wanted to use my grub2 in my primary OS which is linux mint. I multi boot. It appears that the trouble is caused because I have a USB External Hard drive that is hooked to a USB3 card in my computer. guess I will have to edit grub config to set which distro boots first by default. The reason I don't want to do that is because everytime I add a new distro and run (update grub) I will have the same problem all over again. I don't have this problem with other distros. Mel Re: LL 3.0 installs fine but won't boot looking for file name - Valtam - 10-02-2016 Linux Lite is targeted at new users to Linux, therefore it was not developed to multiboot with other distros. In 3.2 I'm looking at a new method that has so far has 'played nicely' with other linux based operating systems. I was hoping that had changed. Scratch one distro. Will try it again when that is fixed. Mel |
