Will this work well with Linux Lite? (New Computer Build) - TuxInAGalaxy - 08-21-2016 I see in the hardware category everything is broken down in separate parts. I just want your opinion about a computer I'm thinking about building. This might not be in the hardware archive since I'm putting it together myself. (New Computer Build) - Wirezfree - 08-22-2016 I would say yes... Just install it see how it goes, but I suspect you may/will need to use the latest LL Kernel given it's Skylake based CPU/MOBO See this thread for latest Kernels. The thread(now 17 pages) is updated by the LL developer "Jerry" This was the last update: Code: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install linux-headers-linuxlite-4.7.0 linux-image-linuxlite-4.7.0 -y Re: Will this work well with Linux Lite? I'm still doing some research before I buy. Re: Will this work well with Linux Lite? (New Computer Build) - TuxInAGalaxy - 09-04-2016 Currently I'm thinking about giving up on the computer build and buying this one: https://www.amazon.com/CYBERPOWERPC-Xtreme-GXiVR8020A-Gaming-Desktop/dp/B01HNBLHAA/ref=as_li_ss_tl?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1472146210&sr=1-3&keywords=cyberpowerpc&linkCode=sl1&tag=tecdea0f-20&linkId=3275b62a100b03abea0a4e4036fb06b6 It was suggested to me in another forum and plus I've been researching building a computer for an entire month. All the parts and stuff is confusing me. I mean if you guys think that will run Linux Lite then maybe I should just go that way. One issue on the first list of parts I gave you, is today I was trying to locate the online manual to the motherboard. I'm not saying that in a few hours I won't find it. But right up front I'm not finding the information I want and then I'm not even sure with all the various models ASUS has, which one is really the board that was shown to me on newegg. Re: Will this work well with Linux Lite? (New Computer Build) - Valtam - 09-04-2016 I would stay away from AMD graphics. Try to get something with Intel or nVidia. I have an Update for you and everyone on this thread. I built a new computer. I have some pictures but I don't have time to upload them right now. Here is the system specs. I'm going to try and install the 4.7 kernel. Currently the only bug I'm having is with vlc player. Other then that, everything seems to be running smooth on Linux Lite 3.0 64 bit. Code: System: Host: gregory-System-Product-Name Kernel: 4.4.0-22-generic x86_64 (64 bit gcc: 5.3.1) Re: Will this work well with Linux Lite? (New Computer Build) - sweetloraine - 11-01-2016 Sweet! What was your total price? Re: Will this work well with Linux Lite? (New Computer Build) - Zebedee Boss - 11-12-2016 Hi All Bit late to the replies but here we go. The only problem you may encounter, is getting the LIVE USB's to run in the first place. I always have to use NOMODESET on the end of the Linux line in grub to get a screen to display. Once installed, fully updated, rebooted and Nvidia proprietary graphics drivers installed everything runs sweet. BUT until those graphics drivers are installed you may have issues. I would really be interested if anyone has a permanent solution to this because Nouveau drivers simply don't work with my Skylake setup, without NOMODESET out of the box my specs Code: zebedee@i7-lite:~$ inxi -Fz Obtained from a UK PC Builder Company and came in just under £1k with the 256gb NVMe SSD and minus the extra HDD's Regards Zeb... Re: Will this work well with Linux Lite? (New Computer Build) - R.Timeos - 11-19-2016 AMD graphics (Radeon) is not being supported by AMD for Linux and hence not by Ubuntu et al for their distributions, you can use the default AMD-GPU Mesa option, it would get installed by default Or add an Nvidia card, since AMD later processor the A series include their graphics along with the CPU In my case I prefer AMD cpus or the combo AMD A -series, and I would probably add an Nvidia card, since the cost and power differential initially favors AMD |
