If people are using there Android Phones tethered as modem, would that be it.??
Some providers in the UK for example give unlimited Data plans.

It's pretty cool to see this distro start to really take off. Probably the reasoning behind all the mobile downloads is probably because of people discovering the distro somewhere other than their house, and a mobile device (smartphone / tablet) is pretty much the only gateway to the Internet, assuming that they did not bring along a laptop.

The more interesting thing to me is how they are downloading this on a cellular network. Their providers would certainly charge overages considering how much this distro consumes in mobile data. Granted, other distros are much worse in size. Even Ubuntu used to be 700MB a few years back (12.04 LTS), but now, they let it RUN WILD!

Here in the U.S. mobile plans are just a flat-out joke. Almost no companies here offer unlimited data. Verizon Wireless & AT&T Mobility both have discontinued offering mobile plans with unlimited data, and will charge you overages. T-Mobile & Sprint are the only ones that do nowadays (aside from prepaid-only company offerings), and I don't know how long that will last before they decide to revoke it.

@ misko,

If they are just using it as a modem for internet connection,
they will probably be downloading onto a Linux/Windows PC I assume, and do the md5 check on that.??

It appears that CNET has Linux Lite listed as  mobile Operating system.

Nah, they ask Chuck Norris. Because he can read original string from the MD5 hash without rainbow tables. Smile

I used my phone as a modem a few times but mostly use it to boot distros from it.
There is an application to mount ISO's to the usb. It works only on rooted phones and not all phone models.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.softwarebakery.drivedroid
This application has an option to download ISO files from SourceForge to the sdcard on a phone.
Later you can mount them to usb and boot up the computer.

@ avj,

Yes, could be confusing/mis-leading to some.
