Re: Linux Lite 2.8 Suggestion Thread - paul1149 - 09-07-2015 I've come up with a few desktop enhancements id like to see in LL. These are on the relatively minor side, and may be beyond the scope of LL, but they do add up, so here goes.
Re: Linux Lite 2.8 Suggestion Thread - Teddy - 09-09-2015 Loving the 2.6 release of Lite! Good job LL team! You are definitely deserving of the funds need to make this project happen. GO TEAM! This might be a minor issue, and just a cosmetic one. The GRUB bootloader looks plain with its default colors. Is there a way to put in the default wallpaper as a background by default on first install when grub pops up? Other than that little minor niggle, it is top notch! Good Job! Even my changing volume issues that I had in previous releases with this particular machine (HP Pavilion TouchSmart 11-e015dx) are now gone as far as I can tell! Is there a way to put in the default wallpaper as a background by default on first install when grub pops up?I had the default blue and white - modified grub to be black and white.. The original code: Code: GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -d 2> /dev/null || echo Debian` Modified the line to: Code: GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2> /dev/null || echo Debian` Which should change to black and white theme... Don't forget to Code: sudo update-grub If you look at the "05_debian_theme" file in /etc/grub.d/ it goes into more detail of themes and backgrounds... If anything its a place to start... **UPDATE - may have given half info - I looked at the system I updated closer... Additionally - if you prefer Code: GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -d -s 2> /dev/null || echo Debian` LinuxLite 2.6 Which again maybe whats being coded Modify the "05_debian_theme" file from Code: Tanglu|Ubuntu|Kubuntu) Code: Tanglu|Ubuntu|"Linux Lite 2.6"|Kubuntu) Code: sudo update-grub Re: Linux Lite 2.8 Suggestion Thread - Wirezfree - 09-12-2015 This may seem small & trivial if you only have 1 PC, but I still think useful.? In the spirit of Simple & Lite things to do. On the LLCC > Software Screen Have "2" Buttons [Save "My Software" List] This allows you to create a list of software you have installed, and save the list to say a USB Stick/NAS. [Restore "My Software" List] This allows you to install the software from the list you saved above by selecting the list that you saved. Useful after a new re-install, or if you want to keep multi installs the same. Note, I think you can do similar with some apt-get commands, but never figured it out ![]() Re: Linux Lite 2.8 Suggestion Thread - Valtam - 09-12-2015 @Dave, excellent suggestions, we will work that in somewhere, the ideas are solid. Re: Linux Lite 2.8 Suggestion Thread - Wirezfree - 09-12-2015 @Jerry, Thanks... Re: Linux Lite 2.8 Suggestion Thread - Shady - 09-13-2015 Minor suggestion, adding a link to GOG (Good Old Games.com) to the Games tab in the Menu. Steam and Humble Bundle are on there why not GOG. Re: Linux Lite 2.8 Suggestion Thread - Ottah - 09-21-2015 Hi Suggestion 1: Able to clearly distinguish which windows is open and selected. Currently due to the default colour, it's difficult to distinguish clearly which windows is on top - if you have opened two. Proposal: Background window which is open, should fade on the top task bar, while the highlighted task bar should be darker. Edit: for some reason my windows menu was under Mediterraneanlight by default. Please put Moheli as default instead. It will be easier for new users. Check link for details: http://tinypic.com/r/34erc4l/8 Suggestion 2: Bottom menu bar to be slightly smaller. It's seems quite large and looked large on other laptops I previously installed LL on. Edit: Under panels you can change the size. Default size should be bit smaller. I have put 26. Not sure what the default was but maybe the default should be around 27? Suggestion 3: I'm not sure if this my own laptops issue but I can't seem to drag any folders to the bottom or to the corner of the screen. On all M$ Windows, I was freely able to place folders anywhere on the desktop but it seems it's restricted on Linux. If i drag a folder to the bottom or across to the corner, it simply moves back into aligned position on the left side. Edit: I created a folder which I was able to place it at the bottom and across the screen however it seems to have a restriction if I want to overlap two folders. If there a way to reduce to gap so I can overlap the folders. Also I'm not able to put the folders on the side completely (close as possible to the edge). Check link for details: http://tinypic.com/r/28mlm5z/8 Suggestion 4: Create a similar menu section as Windows Xp with shortcuts folders and access to programs. Please check link belowand look at the left side. Linux mint has created a similar feature and I'm sure LL team would be able to integrate. Possibly add colours if possible. It would be great for people migrating from windows to Linux especially the older school timers ![]() http://i.nextmedia.com.au/Utils/ImageResizer.ashx?n=http%3a%2f%2fi.nextmedia.com.au%2fNews%2fwindows+xp.png&w=440&c=0&s=1 Suggestion 5: Create a software repository which is easy to navigate and install. Make it into a menu rather than simple tick boxes - like Ubuntu's but more updated. Also expand the list of program i.e. Bleachbit, download manager, torrent applications etc... One of the reasons I returned to LL was because of the updated LibreOffice - so much better than the Linux Mint's version (which is old). Suggestion 6: Simply have 1 delete function - "move to trash". From trash you should be able to delete items permanently. When I first started using Linux it confused the hell out of me and only now I know the difference. It would be difficult for new users to understand so keep it simple and straight forward and only keep one delete function. Suggestion 7: Please make changes to the update feature. Under software and updates>updates, I can change it automatically begin installing updates but I'm not sure if this feature works. Also is there a way I can keep packages same (instead of changing it and making system unstable) without requiring user input? I'm thinking of my folks and family who I know will automatically update anything that pops up. Hopefully it helps. The above suggestion would greatly support new users migrating from Windows to Linux. Go to Desktop Settings. MENU Bar: Click on the Menus tab. Change the value of the Menus size. ICONS: Click on the Icons tab. Change the value of the Icon size. [/quote] Hi Thank you but it doesn't have the choice to change the menu bar size. Also a great default feature for 2.8 LL would be to reduce icon size to 41, put Home folder on desktop. Also have gufw firewall as option to install along with newer version of Playonlinux, steam and wine on a LL software repository - if possible ![]() Thank you |
