Then another after you find resolution. The following shouldn't bother the system but never hurts.. Try disabling Bluetooth - sometime BT has been known to cause WiFi issues. Verify.. Since it worked in LL3.8, may be kernel related - LL3.8 ships with Kernel: 4.4.0-112 whereas LL4.0 ships with Kernel: 4.15.0-22 You can use Lite Tweaks - Kernel Installer; choose 4.4 at least to start with..
The following I wouldn't attempt without having a restore - it'll be easier to restore versus removing.. Depending on WiFi encryption: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2347479 Re: WIFI doesn't work after a fresh 4.0 install - joss - 06-14-2018 Hi firenice03, I tried the "lite Tweaks - Kernel Installer" but it doesn't take place , that is, I get an error saying " Your computer is not connected to the internet". so it si impossibile to try the things you suggested. So it appear we are at the starting point. thanks for the help and your time! Do you have any other suggestion ?? Re: WIFI doesn't work after a fresh 4.0 install - firenice03 - 06-14-2018 Can you connect to the internet by other means? Ethernet cable? Having access to the internet will also allow drivers/system update.. Menu > type Software > from Software and Updates > there is an "Additional Drivers" tab or from Menu > type "Install Drivers" https://www.linuxliteos.com/manual/software.html#updates Re: WIFI doesn't work after a fresh 4.0 install - Mart - 06-14-2018 Hi Joss I’m no expert on these things, and what I’m about to suggest might seem a little simplistic and obvious, but you could start with the basics to try to eliminate any install errors that may have occurred and could be causing the problem. To start with, did you download the ISO correctly and verify the MD5sum and the media for integrity before installing? Next, if you have a mind to re-install your system, run LL 4.0 live and connect to your network before clicking to install your system? If your wifi isn’t recognized in the live system, you could try connecting to your router via an Ethernet cable anyway and then click to install. The logic of the above is that as your system installs it will detect your hardware, including your Atheros AR9287 chipset, and then upon re-booting your newly installed system may connect to your wifi correctly as a result. Apologies if you’ve tried all of the above, and for stating the obvious. Good Luck! Mart Re: WIFI doesn't work after a fresh 4.0 install - joss - 06-19-2018 Hi firenice03, At this point , I think would be better to wait for a kernel update. if one will be available in a resonable time. I lost a lot of time because of this. sooner or later it had to happen. I give it up. thank for your time and suggestions...
