Or are you doing this using the usb stick ?

Have you checked the BIOS settings, set to "legacy" and not to UEFi ?
Also disable "fast boot" in BIOS ?

Thanks bitsnpcs - the thing is - there are no such options in my BIOS (latest version)...
Windows XP is installed, factory; no luck so far with installing Linux.

Hello wongtsz,

I have had a search around, it seems the problem is the "glib" in installer, info from 01.org.
You need a Linux installer with an older glib version.
Only the LL developers will know which earlier version of LL uses the glib before 2.0.0

I see the problem was mentioned across Ubuntu and those based on it, also on Fedora and Crunchbang distros, same problem.
The problem first wrote of (that I could find) on 01.org from "2013 Q4" release not being possible to use.

I was not able to find any other useful info for Linux for this.
I did find Intel page with all the drivers for windows from xp to 10, or many sites of people asking about drivers for Linux but I did not see any solutions for this wrote of.

Hey [member=7415]wongtsz[/member]
Like [member=6925]RandomBoy[/member] mentions, if you checked the install updates when installing, I'm just guessing but it could be that the Linux Kernel was updated too.
Something to try:
- Turn off PC
- Turn it back on and hold the SHIFT key.
- Grub should boot with the menu
- You can then choose the advance option to selct a previous kernel.
- Try an older Kernel (standard / generic ones)

I had a similar problem on a machine and reverting to previous kernel worked.

Good luck!

Hello,

I had the same problem every time I activate "install update during installation" option.
The problem arises on every version of LL from 3.4 to 3.8, and on every kind kind of PC.

Thanks bitsnpcs and TheDead!

I tried the SHIFT key - but it also freezes... from what I have found online it seems a GMA 500 issue - I tried installing Debian with ACPI=off, worked with the first bootup, then freezes when shutdown/ restart.

I guess I will have to install Linus Lite on another computer. Many thanks again for every comment!

wongtsz I hope you have a better time on another computer for installing.
