Hi, here is my problem. OS recognizes the printer (like 3700 ser.), but does not print/scan (message "Printer may not be connected" in Printer-settings dialog window or Print Queue).
I'm trying to install latest HPLIP from https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/gethplip (https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/gethplip), but the process stucks in the phase:
RUNNING HPLIP LIBS COMMANDS
sudo apt-get remove libhpmud0 libsane-hpaio printer-driver-postscript-hp
Anybody have an advice/solution pls??? Thank you! JC

@Jan Cerveny
You may want to have a look here: https://www.linuxliteos.com/manual/hardware.html#printer (https://www.linuxliteos.com/manual/hardware.html#printer)
Lots of good info for set up but specifically just below (or https://www.linuxliteos.com/manual/hardware.html#rescomprint (https://www.linuxliteos.com/manual/hardware.html#rescomprint)) you'll find a section "HP Printers on Linux Lite"
The 3700 is listed so following, you should be able to complete set up...
sudo apt-get install hplip-gui

I just happened to re-install my HP Deskjet 3630, after reinstalling LL5.2. It was very annoying, but my printer looks similar to yours, so maybe I can help.
First I printed out a network configuration page by pressing down both the network and information buttons on the printer, at the same time.
Then I activated the Wi-fi network for the printer. My network is called "DIRECT-A9-HP Deskjet 3630 series". The password is found on the print-out.
In "Printers" I chose "Add" => "Printer"
Under Select Device => Network Printer =>Find Network Printer => Internet Printing Protocol
Under Enter device URI I added the link from the print-out, found in the section "Wi-Fi Direct". Something like this: https://123.456.789.0
Then press forward.

Find HP on the list

Then your printer, and the "hpcups" option in the right hand side of the window
(https://imgur.com/pWzjaiJ.png")
(https://imgur.com/pWzjaiJ.png)
Then you can name the printer:

Then "Apply", and you should be able to print a test page.
When using simple-scan, make sure you choose the SSL option.

@firenice03
I tried do so (checked both websites, followed instructions, installed hplip-gui via terminal...) before I've posted here. Nothing of these worked. That's why I tried to find a help here... Thank you

Thank you for the advice. Didn't work. 'HPLIP Status service' and 'Status Messages' in 'Printer Properties' "see" the printer but still says "Connection error"... :/

Support for this printer has been around for a long time, not sure why it is so complicated to install, should be just plug and play, limited set up. Are you running a firewall?
-
If you have pair wps on your router you need to press this router button.
-
@Jerry
I'm trying to solve this with hplip supp. too here https://answers.launchpad.net/hplip/+question/696166 (https://answers.launchpad.net/hplip/+question/696166). And yes, FW is enabled.
-
Either disable the Firewall or see the Help Manual Firewall section for creating a Rule.

No wps button on my router, no wps pairing (consciously). :D

@Jerry
Tried to disable FW with no effect. Still "Device communication error - code 5012' in HPLIP Status Service...

Look first at the advices -
visit - http://localhost:631/ (http://localhost:631/)
Under the tab printers, see if your printer is listed.
Then under the tab Jobs, see if there are any jobs waiting, cancel the jobs.
Look second at -
remove the usb cable from the printer, then reboot the computer, and printer.
refit usb cable.
If still not working follow on to the other tasks.
Look third at -
make sure no jobs waiting, search results showed issues happen most often if hplip is installed when jobs are waiting, or groups choice during installation.
purge hplip,
reinstall hplip,
check carefully the groups selected during installation process.
Best to follow the "look third" above paragraph with the staff help on LL forum.
Look fourth at, as last resort -
On itsfoss link above look at the link to Ubuntu instructions, with LL staff advice, on how to purge and uninstall hplip, then how to install HP printers without using hplip at all.
For clarity I am not LL staff, I am just another user of the LL distro, and hplip, I use a HP printer (Lazer), before this on LL I used the Kodak AIO, before that I used a HP inkjet.

Try Timeshifting to a restore point, before you installed HPLIP, and then follow the steps I provided. I have a feeling it will work.

Hi Jan,
I too had no end of trouble trying to get my HP3630 working, in the end I went through CUPS Home page and under CUPS for users selected Command Line Printing and options and followed instructions there. I can't remember if I uninstalled HPLIP or not.
Hope this helps.
PS used the ipp everywhere driver

@Jan
From the link you posted - I see a few things... your printer ip ends in (URI) 223.1 (.1 is typically the gateway) but more so the missing dependencies.
If you're in the same state (haven't tried a bunch of stuff) try the following...
https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/install/manual/distros/ubuntu (https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/install/manual/distros/ubuntu)
I would do Step 2 == I assume that you may have already updated HPLIP, could skip 3
OR
and if most have been done, you could start/try past step 8 and run the below command to see what errors...
Still in the same URL -- https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/install/manual/hp_setup (https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/install/manual/hp_setup)
sudo hp-setup
If all else fails - it might not hurt to start fresh with a prior state w/ Time Shift or a fresh install if able.. After updated make a TimeShift back up, always helps to have a fall back..
Then follow the Manual to the letter - try with the 1st steps and see what works and progress....
Good Luck

@firenice03 you have small unreadable text.
-
@Jerry thanks fixed, think maybe something from copy/paste??
Looked ok after preview/post...
-
@firenice03 I do everything in source mode, rules out the possibility of any formatting errors.

@Jerry thanks I'll give that a go

I had exactly the same problem with a HP Envy 5640 Multifunction printer and after doing some research I discovered that there is a known and well documented bug retating to several HP Printers and Ubuntu 20.04.
The fix is as simple as opening XFCE terminal and then typing "sudo apt purge ippusbxd" enter. when complete, reboot PC and then print test page from printers properties page. ALL functions worked i.e. scanner, print multiple pages to single sheet etc - perfectly for me after following the above instructions and should solve all your issues also
