Have just installed a Canon Pixma MG5550 Multi-Function Inkjet into LL 2.2
The printer works wonderfully using both USB Cable and Wireless but try as I might I cannot get Simple Scan to recognize and utilize the scanner that's built into this machine.
I can get the scanner to work using canon's "scangearmp" utility but I much prefer the Simple Scan software and would really appreciate any assistance you could offer in resolving this issue please

Hi,
If you search the forum there have been a few post on Cannon MFD's
There is this one on Scanning with a 2550 series:
https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/index.php?topic=939.msg5585#msg5585 (https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/index.php?topic=939.msg5585#msg5585)
A quick search finds something similar for the MG5500 Series:
http://support-asia.canon-asia.com/contents/ASIA/EN/0100552302.html (http://support-asia.canon-asia.com/contents/ASIA/EN/0100552302.html)
I guess the basic instructions are similiar to the first link I gave, but file names different
I cant't really help any more, never had to do this.
Maybe somebody else can jump in..??
GL... Dave

Hello Daveyboy,
here are two tutorials for the Sane scanner backend for your printer.
http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-get-a-canon-all-in-one-printer-working-with-ubuntu.html (http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-get-a-canon-all-in-one-printer-working-with-ubuntu.html)
http://linux.wikia.com/wiki/Getting_Canon_PIXMA_to_work_on_Linux (http://linux.wikia.com/wiki/Getting_Canon_PIXMA_to_work_on_Linux)
I am unsure if either is a better tutorial than the other.
