I didn't realize that 12 GB out my 64 GB SSD was taken for a swap drive when I installed Linux Lite. Does anyone know how I can delete that? My PC has 12 GB ram which is a lot for Linux Lite so I would probably never need the swap drive anyway. Thanks for any help.

Wrong locale on installation

I recently installed LL without any problems. As I was installing, it correctly found that I am in the UK and it suggested London for the time zone. Fine. However, when I checked later by running locale in a terminal screen, I found that the locale was set to the US. I had to change it to en_GB myself. Then, of course, I found that the Orage calendar was now showing Monday as the first day of the week. I like my weeks to start on a Sunday, so I had to change that too.
But my main query is, having found the correct time zone for me during installation, why did the installer set my locale to the US?

OK I posted here not to long ago about an update install error. Here I am again with a different computer with linux lite doing the same thing, but this time the error is this, "Linux Lite Updates couldn't fetch the package cache information lists".
I did the three terminal commands that Torreydale gave me for the last problem I had with update errors. The commands seemed to be working in the terminal, so I restarted the computer and tried the updates again. They did the same thing as above. What should I do?

I've installed Linux Lite on a PC of a colleague. He was happy, but the sound doesn't work. Tomorrow I will visit this colleague to fix the problem. Unfortunatelly I've not the details of the system now. Only this facts, I've saved on my computer:
Quote:Intel® Core2 Duo CPU [email protected] GHz
3.00GHz.2.00 GB RAM
What is the best way or sequence of steps to check a sound problem?
I assume, if I do not solve the problem tomorrow, he will cancel LL totally. He is not the most patient person I know.

I'm a volunteer for a Corporation that gives, at no cost, refurbished computer hardware to individuals, schools, veterans, etc.. As for my part, my background is IT with a focus on switching/routing (the COMM Closet end of the wire) and I enjoy, immensely, cherry picking through the donated non-desktop hardware for candidate pieces to offer for sale to help generate some revenue for our operations.
For servers, I've been using a few live linux distros to quickly verify if they are operational or not. I saw the release notice for Linux Lite 3.4 and thought I'd give it a try. What an excellent put together distro. I booted a ten year old Dell PowerEdge 1950 (2007) with two dual core Xeons, 8GB ram, PERC 5/i RAID controller & 2 SAS drives. So maybe I've found a "go to" distro for our needs. It's nice it "sees" the NAS shares on the network out of the box and supports the USB sound adapter I've installed to verify/test sound. I've just started exploring it and maybe it's time to settle on one.
Thanks,
SpaceCadet

Resizing a partition

Hello.
I've given LL a small partition of 2 GB for home, because I use a larger partition for the user files from different linux installations. But the home of LL is running out of space. So I've tried to resize it. I 've copied the hole partition as backup:
Code: johnd@central-desktop:~$ sudo dd if=/dev/sda10 of=/media/central_home/Recovery/sda10.img bs=20M & watch --interval=1 "du -h /media/central_home/Recovery/sda10.img"
To make the home partition larger with GParted was not possible, I only could shrink it. Therefore I decided to delete it an build it new from scratch.
But GParted does not allow to build a new larger partition. I assume, that the sequence of the partition numbers is not the same than the sequence of the real partitions on the drive.
How can I check the real sequence of the partitions on linux command line? Ok. I assume only with fdisk and the list of start blocks start and end blocks. Can I reorganize it without problems?
Second Problem: If tried to use the free unallocated space at the end of the hard drive, but GParted tells me that I have to create an extended partition first. But (!) there is an extended partition and there are about 19 partitions. What may be the problem?

I've tried to resize sda20 on which LL home has lived, until Friday evening. :

Wifi problems after Updates

Hello everyone,
I am new to the forum but not new to Linux, but by no means am I an expert. I was wondering if anyone else has ever seen this problem before.
After installing update to Linux lite, I reboot and when linux loads, I have no wifi. After a lot of playing around I discover that if I shutdown the pc, pull the battery, and then remove power for a couple of minutes, then boot I will have wifi with no problems. but if I do a restart from the log out screen the wifi will not work. I have searched Google for a month or more but I have not found any answers. When the wifi doesn't work, the access point says "Not Authorized". I have tried setting it with ifconfig and iwconfig and of course it doesn't even recognized. But if I do a shut down, pull battery, disconnect power, wait a couple of minutes then boot the PC. I will have wifi when it boots up.
This problem appeared after the last updates but why would pulling power before booting give me wifi but if I restart the pc wifi doesn't work ? It has me pulling my hair out not being able to fix this problem.
What am I over looking or missing here ? Anyone else ever run into this. The PC is a HP Sleekbook, 4x AMD A8-4555M APU with Radeon HD Graphics, Memory 5570MB (856MB used), running Linux Lite 3.2.
Thanks for taking the time to read my post.
