Read how to make LL secure.
See what else Linux Lite can do.
I think X kill is cool :)

  • CPU: 8x Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @2.67GHz

  • MEMORY: 4Gb

  • VIDEO CARD: Nvidia 650GTX
I rebooted and looked at Task Manager nothing open program wise Processes 174 CPU 9% Memory 8% Swap 0%

once open Firefox 14% then start to play a video on Vimeo Flashplayer round the 46% 50% mark.
Processes 170 CPU 84% Memory 15% Swap 0% - this is only one page open plus the video I have ticked of HD.

Thanks
In case the flash plugin causes high cpu-usage, you can try this: create
/etc/adobe/mms.cfg:
Code: [Select]
# Adobe player settings
 AVHardwareDisable = 0
 FullScreenDisable = 0
 LocalFileReadDisable = 1
 FileDownloadDisable = 1
 FileUploadDisable = 1
 LocalStorageLimit = 1
 ThirdPartyStorage = 1
 AssetCacheSize = 10
 AutoUpdateDisable = 1
 LegacyDomainMatching = 0
 LocalFileLegacyAction = 0
 AllowUserLocalTrust = 0
 # DisableSockets = 1
 OverrideGPUValidation = 1
and CPU load will drops....

mmm...
CPU looks to be O.K, memory usage is high, but not enough to start the OS triggering the use of swap.

So,
Do the same again, but if you can leave it for an hour or so idling, then check again, let's see if there is any memory leakage.?

I would still like to see the CPU Usage just after bootup, and when programs are loaded, is something eating CPU time..??

Just a thought.
Are all other functions working normally - i.e have you tried something like watching iplayer or simililar.
Does youtube work.
Have you tried another video player such as vlc?
Was your version of openshot downloaded via synaptic installer.
what format are these movies - mp4?

Have you downloaded them or are they your creation . if so via what device?

UPDATE - Have just downloaded OPENSHOT via Synaptic install/uninstall.  Have successfully played  previously downloaded MP4 files from BBC IPlayer, and an AVI video file recorded on my digital camera.  No hesitancy.

PC Spec HP DC7700 desktop- small form factor - 3 GB RAM  - Intel twincore  1.8GHz , Video Intel 82Q963/ Q965  @ res 1280 X1024 IIYAMA  19" crt.  LL2.6 32 bit Standard Kernel ( 3.13?)

Hope this helps

reloaded LL yesterday and loaded graphics card, help from the Help manual.
Today tried to use Openshot one a very small video, computer locked up unable to click anything on screen, had to hit power button.

Did work on second time but third time on a different video locked up again.
So out come
Drop Linux Lite ? don't under stand how this comuter ran win 7 that must have been more CPU and memory hungry!

Read how to make LL secure.
See what else Linux Lite can do.
I think X kill is cool :)

Hi,

I'm running a very small Small Atom(N2807) PC with 64bit LL and 2GB mem.
I checked your CPU Benchmark compared to mine, it should be fine
D525 & N2807

What I suggest to get a feel for what is happening is to install "gtkperf"
This is not an "absolute" test, just a "relative" test. Install it, Re-Boot and run "gtkperf" with nothing else.
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install gtkperf
This is gtkperf tests on my N2807 @ "idle"

This is gtkperf tests on my N2807 @ "loaded to @ 50~60%"

Have you checked Menu > System > System Monitor, see if anything is taking lots of CPU..??
Click on the "View" drop down, and select "All Processes"
Then click on the "CPU" column, get the highest at the top.

Check this just after a "Bootup", and when you start your programs, 1 by 1.
Maybe something "rogue" is grabbing lots of CPU time..??

The disk utility can still show "ok" with a failing hdd just like it did in the other thread.

Just make sure to check the error counts,  any error is a bad sign.

You shouldn't be running a 64 bit OS on 512MB of RAM. And Atom processors can't even handle 64bit. I'm surprised it installed. Up the RAM if you can, and reload LL in 32 bit.

Even though they're not true 64-bit machines, some of the later Atom processors will permit the installation of a 64-bit OS, but as you said, it isn't a good idea. The early netbooks ran XP or Windows 7 Starter for a reason.

So that I always have a PC with me, I keep an HP Mini210 netbook in the trunk of the car. Even with 2 GB of RAM and an (older) 128 GB SSD, Windows 8.1 Pro runs like a snail on it. Fortunately, I also have LL on it, so I can actually USE the thing...

The first thing I would suggest is to start a live session on the computer and check the hard drive to make sure this drive isn't failing as well. You may have

 something in close proximity to the computer that is giving off a lot of RFI (Radio Frequency Interference) this can cause HDD to fail. You can check the

HDD from the live session like we did in the other thread by going to: Menu > Setting > Disks   Then click on the gear icon in the upper right corner and

select "SMART Data & Self-Tests" post back with the screen output of that and we can go from there.

Does not the the writer says at the beginning he has circa 3GB of Ram?

Not originally. He said

Quote
CPU: 700MHz processor
RAM: 512mb ram
RESOLUTION: VGA screen 1024x768 resolution

and that was it. Minimum requirements was added later as well as specs after I answered with my reply. Added way later on in fact. I am going to delete my posts because of these edits. My reply would have been a lot different if this info would have been present then.

Thank you. I had a hard time with the fractured grammar of the first post, but I did think I originally got the content correct, and subsequently didn't understand how I had missed the "minimum requirements" bit.

I was unaware, though, that Atom processors had progressed to 64 bit.

Thanks again.
