This was from some time ago.  With 4GB Ram and the right set of drivers on LL it should fly!!

I am beginning to wonder if this isn't the same computer from this post: https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/on-topic/why-is-my-computer-slowing-down/
with the same failing hard drive.

Does not the the writer says at the beginning he has circa 3GB of Ram?

Not originally. He said

Quote
CPU: 700MHz processor
RAM: 512mb ram
RESOLUTION: VGA screen 1024x768 resolution

and that was it. Minimum requirements was added later as well as specs after I answered with my reply. Added way later on in fact. I am going to delete my posts because of these edits. My reply would have been a lot different if this info would have been present then.

Sorry. I saw this:
MINIMUM RECOMMENDED SPECIFICATIONS:
CPU: 700MHz processor
RAM: 512mb ram
RESOLUTION: VGA screen 1024x768 resolution

And thought it was his specs. And I see that is one Atom processor that does handle 64 bits. My fault.

Does not the the writer say at the beginning he has circa 3GB of Ram?  Also the spec suggests quad core  Intel Atom D525?.  If I understand correctly.  That should be not a donkey but a race horse :) .   Did you try and install from a DVD or from a USB.  On my desktop I had repeated problems with the read speed of the DVD and so the install did not run smoothly.  Changed to a USB install and all went well.    The Manual is your friend here regarding the NVDIA.

Might I suggest that you download the iso again. I chose 32 bit as I was advised that there was little advantage of using the 64 bit for my my spec of 3GB RAM HP deskop.   Do the checksum to see all is OK and use the USB route??

You shouldn't be running a 64 bit OS on 512MB of RAM. And Atom processors can't even handle 64bit. I'm surprised it installed. Up the RAM if you can, and reload LL in 32 bit.

It might be simpler to for you to kill a task using the Task Manager (Menu, System, Task Manager).  You can right click on the task running VLC and use options from there.

You didn't go into more detail on the slowness you're experiencing.  Can you do that please?

I notice you have an Nvidia graphics card.  Did you select an Nvidia driver for it?  You can do that using the Additional Drivers tool in Linux Lite.
Before I (think) there was no other driver to be found from install.

What window were you trying to kill?
I try to open Terminal to use xkill to shut video window VLC as the X closes not working, but clicking about nothing opens so have to press the power button to turn off.

If 0f589216802afaab343d266e6bcb4cd1 is the sum you got, then that appears to be a match for the 64 bit version of LL 2.6.

Can you explain more about what is slow, and what is locking up?  Or what is taking place just before things lock up?

Well then search the term "md5sum" in YouTube.  There are videos there showing how to check the md5 sum from a Windows or Linux based operating system.

The number your md5sum number SHOULD match is listed in the Download section of the Linux Lite website.  If your md5sum doesn't match that number, this could be the reason you're having trouble with your install.

No. The donkey is your computer. The load on back is Linux Lite. I am not critiquing or judging you one bit.

Being clueless is not a crime to me. Edited: because of original post edit.
