virus scan

@firenice03 & @Moltke,
I appreciate the information and I will make sure to give it a look, and from now on I will only scan the home directory as I'm sure it won't take as long to complete. Have a great day.
regards,
Vint

There's this http://4mlinux.blogspot.com/2013/02/antivirus-live-cd.html too. It's a live CD including the ClamAV scanner. You can burn it to a USB device, and boot from it to scan your pc.

Once you've set it up.. it then becomes an update and run..
Update:
--- Code: ---sudo freshclam
--- End code ---
Run:
--- Code: ---sudo clamscan -r -i /PATH_of_SCAN | grep FOUND >> /home/YOURUSER/virus-scan-report.txt
--- End code ---
As long as no errors present.
Personally - I scan my home directory, as this is where downloads go... you can do root (/) but you may want to add exclusions i.e. for TimeShift (backup) directory...

@firenice03,
I have read the tutorial and copy and paste the commands when I perform a scan, I'm just not used to the process yet but thanks

If you haven't give the manual a read over - yes its terminal based but the instruction is spot on.
