Just heard back from the moderator at XFCE. Says fixed icon size is a bug, but gives possible fix and info on how to increase font size: http://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?pid=42589#p42589

Thanks, but no luck. I tried all that and got nowhere. I'm currently using the Humanity icon set, but I've tried all the native sets and nothing expands. I'm going to try to attach a shot here showing the panel with empty button space, plenty of height, and Humanity being used, with small icons.

I tried on my LL 3.0. Right click the lower panel bar, then from the menu highlight>panel and select> panel preferences from the menu. Adjust row size pixels. leave rows set to >1. If it jumps to two rows, you have too many icons in the panel bar, or too many spacers for them all to fit in one row. If that doesn't help try the native evolvere flat icon set. They will always display over 30 pix. I'm using humanity icons and they can grow to two inches or more just playing around with them right now.

Thanks Wirezfree. I've now asked over at the XFCE forum as well.

Hi Wirezfree,

I can do that, but increasing the height of the row does not affect the button label pixels, either for the icons or the text. It does affect some other things, like the clock. But there is no way I've found to affect the window buttons. And at some height the buttons jump to double rows.

I'm on LL 3.0, but it has substantially the same panel dialog as your 2.8.

Hi,
If you mean all the buttons along the bottom.?
Right click in an open area of the panel, select Panel > Panel Preferences.
You can adjust sizes(pixels) and numbers of rows etc...

Does anyone know how to enlarge the size of the icons on the panel's window buttons? I find them too small, and spend a lot of time straining to read them. If I widen the panel it automatically jumps to two rows, leaving the icons and text (which is also pretty small) unchanged.

Thanks.
