Timeshift and backing up home folder

I was originally puzzled when using systemback, which allows pointing at the ~/home folder, but only some files got backed up. The developer explained that the way system backup tools are designed is to be able to handle loads of small files as found in / rather than fewer often much larger files in the user space. I don't recall the exact limit, but I think systemback was limited to files up to 80k or thereabouts, so it would save config files but not bigger docs, pics etc.

Same thinking would apply to Timeshift - but no access to ~/home

Looks like Timeshift doesnt backup my home folder. Would mean i have to use 2 different backup tools. Why not just leave the option in there to include the home folder and all thats in it in a backup? If you dont want it to be backup up just untick the box.

Does Timeshift back up PPAs in synaptic?

Facepalm. Sorry. TimeShift backups all the system files and settings, hence PPA settings are also included in the backup.

Mint has its own backup tool which is user file oriented, not sure what adding Mint repos would do to LL.

No need for adding the Mint repo for only one package (mintbackup), as one can download this backup tool (in .deb) from here: https://pkgs.org/download/mintbackup

It's compatible with LL (tested by me) and works in the same way like in Mint.

Lol. Sorry. Why not sync personal files and folders with cloud services? I always do so. It's easy, very convenient and up-to-date. Then we'll have only 1 backup tool - for the system and its settings, which is really very important. By the way, the distro itself will not be overloaded by the extra backup tool for home files, and so it will become even lighter.

TimeShift is similar to applications like rsnapshot, BackInTime and TimeVault but with different goals. It is designed to protect only system files and settings. User files such as documents, pictures and music are excluded. This ensures that your files remains unchanged when you restore your system to an earlier date. If you need a tool to backup your documents and files please take a look at the excellent BackInTime application which is more configurable and provides options for saving user files.

BackinTime is long gone but fortunately is still in the 3.x repos. I use it and it works well. TimeVault is more or less abandoned.  Mint has its own backup tool which is user file oriented, not sure what adding Mint repos would do to LL. Deja Dup is a well known user file backup system.

There are various backup utilities in synaptic, it's just that system backup and user file backup have different tools.

I am trying to make a backup to a usb drive using Timeshift. But how do i setup timeshift so it will also backup complete home folder?
Everytime i try it doesnt backup the content of my home folder. I am trying to get familiar with Timeshift, want to use it after installing LL 4.0
