A summery of the reason for my Original Post -----

Discovered I could not Log-in to Skype as I had done the Day before .

Asked Linux-Lite Forum

Discovered the reason and fixed my own Computer

Posted my solution on Forum to help others .

Valtam responded .

NOTE (to Myself)  In future I must avoid  making contentious  comments

Posts then went off at a tangent

Skype 4.2 stopped working, so you need to download Skype 4.3 from their site, uninstall 4.2 and install 4.3.  I did that in LL 1.0.6 without an issue.

Logging into the website should work without an issue.

HI Everybody
Reading some of your comments I am not sure if you understood my problem with Skype ? I was not getting at the Linux community !

On 1st of August without any forewarning the Skype Site stopped me Logging In to my Account
All the message I got was --Cannot Connect to Skype--- . There was no message saying I needed to update to Version 4.3

I assumed that my Password or user name was corrupted or Skype app was corrupted and tried to fix them .Not succeeding I looked on the Web  Eventually after trying several searches I found a reference on the Skype Community Forum

From today, users with Skype for Linux version 4.2 and older will not be able to sign in to Skype. The error messages user will see during sign in may include “Can’t Connect to Skype” or ”Can’t login on Skype”. To continue using Skype, please update to the latest version.

Looking at the Quote they were not aware of it either  I was not getting at Linux but the way Skype had stopped me using 4.2 without directions what I needed to do.
I wasted a lot of time finding out why I could not sign in using the same procedure I used a few hours ago . I found the App on Skpe Downloads easily enough

With reference to the Skype app it is OK on the update but not in the Linux Lite repository via Install Additional Software Menu  so I was trying to alert Valtam or who updates that repository that it needs doing

A few examples: very main stream Miro, Minitube, Tunapie, QArecord, even Jack, but so many more... Not working right or buggy or....
And it does not differ which distro you take. The most have their weak spots.
(PCLOS is rather good in this, but that can be past in a short time, I have see some years back.)

Over the years this has always been a real problem.
Again: there will be enough applications left that are good, but I would applaud a
Linux-team somewhere, where applications are kept or are brought in great shape.
It would be good for Linux.  ;)

I'm sorry Colin23erk, I don't want to interfere   ;)

Hello!

I like the way Debian handles this issue - with different repositories, depending on how bold one wants to be concerning cutting-edge software. I CAN create and install .debs from a tarball if I must, but I prefer not to whenever possible.

Many times, one can find the latest versions of a program on Sourceforge...

A lot of the programs in (the Ubuntu-)repositories do have that problem less or more.
There are enough easy to manage applications left, but outcries like "we have 30k plus in the repo's" of some advertising are really much too easy. :)

Hi Valtam

In the course of my investigations I used Remove then Install Additional Software option 16

Install is still installing 4.2 so it needs updating to 4.3 as well

I had not tried to Update

Thought the way Skype implemented the end of 4.2 showed the usual arrogance of the computer industry --- make changes and let users find out the hard way . Took me 5 hours to get mine sorted .

It may have been that the new version was slow to get into the Ubuntu repo's. It appears to be there now for folks, just do Install Updates and it will update Skype to the newest version for people.

worked OK for me

Skype was ok until today -- now I get
Quote
Skype can't connect

Happens on 2 netbooks using Lite 2 but  Works OK on both  dual booting to Windows

Tried deleting all Skype Files , uninstalling Skpe , re-installing it and a reboot .

Anybody else having problems using Skype on Lite 2
