Can you connect to the internet by other means? Ethernet cable?

Having access to the internet will also allow drivers/system update..
Menu > type Software > from Software and Updates > there is an "Additional Drivers" tab or from Menu > type "Install Drivers"

Hi Joss

Iím no expert on these things, and what Iím about to suggest might seem a little simplistic and obvious, but you could start with the basics to try to eliminate any install errors that may have occurred and could be causing the problem.

To start with, did you download the ISO correctly and verify the MD5sum and the media for integrity before installing?

Next, if you have a mind to re-install your system, run LL 4.0 live and connect to your network before clicking to install your system? If your wifi isnít recognized in the live system, you could try connecting to your router via an Ethernet cable anyway and then click to install.

The logic of the above is that as your system installs it will detect your hardware, including your Atheros AR9287 chipset, and then upon re-booting your newly installed system may connect to your wifi correctly as a result.

Apologies if youíve tried all of the above, and for stating the obvious.

Good Luck!

Mart

Hi firenice03,

At this point , I think would be better to wait for a kernel update. if one will be available in a resonable time.
I lost a lot of time because of this.
sooner or later it had to happen. I give it up.

thank for your time and suggestions...

A kernel update nor a newer kernel (same process to add) may not alleviate the issue, if the driver was removed it may not be put back in..

If you have the Atheros AR3012 (shipped in some lenovo laptops like the z50 that i have) and linux lite 4.0 or ubuntu 18.04, you might have a problem with the adapter, and if you use the command dmesg you are going to get this error:
bluetooth: hci0: don't support firmware rome 0x31010000

I found this solution that solve that issue...

1. Add the ukuu repo to your system:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:teejee2008/ppa && sudo apt update

2. Install ukuu:
sudo apt install ukuu

3. Install the kernel 4.16.9 with ukuu:
sudo ukuu --install v4.16.9

4. And finally reboot

The problem with the AR3012 is caused by the kernel 4.15.0 shipped with Ubuntu 18.04 and linux lite 4.0 and the unique kernel i found  that solve that issue is the 4.16.9

pd: i'm not an english speaker so maybe the instrutions or the grammar is bad, sorry for that

Hi Joss,
In terms of getting WiFi connectivity to perform the suggestions why not buy or borrow a wireless USB (not all are Linux compatible so confirm Linux compatibility)?  I have gone this route in the past for connectivity issues till resolved, or not.

I think they cost anywhere between $10-15 Cdn

Good luck 😉

I'd suggest the same, here (https://www.wirelesshack.org/best-kali-linux-compatible-usb-adapter-dongles-2016.html) is a list of good supported USB Wifi adaptors.

I also found the following suggestions regarding problems with the Atheros 9XXX adapter:

1) https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Acer_Timeline_3830#ATH9K_driver_issue
2) https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/drivers/ath9k/btcoex
