Title: Putty fonts different from terminal
Post by: phirephoto on October 17, 2018, 07:23:10 PM
Maybe I'm not searching on the right keywords... Searched and can't find an answer. Is there a way to make the prompt identical when I'm SSH'd to my LinuxLite box from a Windows machine via Putty identical to the prompt I see when I'm at the console?

See attached for what I see when I'm local vs via Putty:
http://www.espphotography.com/putty.jpg is what I see via putty
http://www.espphotography.com/local.jpg is what I see locally.

Linux Lite 4.0 (GNU/Linux 4.15.0-36-generic x86_64)

Thanks!

Hello phirephoto,

I am not positive, but it sounds like your windows machine does not have the fonts installed that are used in Linux so it is using an alternative font it does have installed in windows.
If so the solution would be to install the font used in Linux on your windows computer too.
You may have to choose the font or associate it with Putty so it uses it.

Any idea what font it is? It's a straight out of the box install/

I cannot check as I am using LL 3.2 it uses LXDE terminal, and LL 4 series uses a different terminal, XFCE I think.
It may use fonts selected by the development team, compared to the standard XFCE terminal.

One of the LL 4.0 users will know or can check it for you though.

In LXDE terminal you click the tab at the top of its window named Edit, then Preferences, it says the font is monospace size 10, there may be a similar setting in your LL 4.0 terminal to find the font name ?

Font shows as Droid Sans Mono 12. Downloaded font, installed, selected it in putty, still the same. Could it be remote character set? I have it as UTF-8?
