Hello alowe,

yes there is a way to do this, do -

Right click on panel (taskbar in Windows etc)
Panel>Panel Preferences

"Automatically hide the panel", drop down box to its right, select "Never"[/img]
You can also click if you wish, "Lock Panel", to prevent moving of it around the screen.

That did the trick, thankyou. I got a laptop given to me with Linuxlite pre-installed. Was going to install Windows but thought I'd try out this Linuxlite first. It's more user friendly than I expected so I'm sticking with it. Just learning a few newbie things - you know what it's like. But it seems to be designed to be relatively idiot proof.

I forget to write about browser settings, where browser it takes full screen mode setting, this can hide your panel (taskbar).
Change browser settings solves this.

Never is the default for "always on top" which means not ever hidden by open windows.

If you are are you wishing to have the clock and calender at the top of the screen, and everything else at the bottom, you have to first re-locate panel one to the top of the screen, then create/add panel two and populate it with what is already on panel one, and then delete what you don't want from panel one i/e just the clock and calender and a couple separators. If you do not use panel one as the top of screen panel before you make any changes you won't be able to ever restore your menu without breaking it. See the link below for another solution for easy menu management.

I often need to refer to the current date and time when writing in forums so it would be useful if the taskbar would stay on top. Is there a way to do this?
