Title: how to add programs to menu Quick Launch
Post by: Henerey8 on June 03, 2022, 05:37:14 PM
I've been through the Help and the Control Panels but I cannot find a way to Add Firefox and Thunderbird to the quick launch start menu, or for that matter to remove Chrome from it (choosing Remove from the right click popup is doing nothing for me). This would be useful to know for other applications too.

What do you mean exactly by" find a way to Add Firefox and Thunderbird to the quick launch start menu" Do you mean favorites in whisker menu? Or do you mean the xfce4-panel?

I mean the bottom left (on a fresh install of 6) panel where the icons for Chrome, terminal rtc are showing. Then when running a program it shows up to the right as a longer icon-like graphic. Coming from Windows I'm used to calling this the Task Bar, then being able to "pin" or unpin programs there. I'd like to pin Firefox and unpin Chrome. BTW another tweak I'd like is to have a click on a running program in this panel bring it forward to front. Mine doesn't.

See https://www.linuxliteos.com/manual/customize.html#panel

Basically
Click 'Menu'->'Settings'->'Panel'

You should see Whisker Menu at the top of the list, then maybe 'show desktop' and two or three other launchers.  Clicking on the Launcher, then edit will allow you to see what each one does.  Add further launchers for your required programs using the black '+' button.

Edit the new launcher by selecting one and click the 'edit currently selected button' (looks like a text icon).  This should bring up a blank launcher window.
Then click the black '+' button and find your required program from the list, then close.

Adjust the position of the new launcher in the list.  Nearer to the top means further to the left in a typical layout.

Identify the launchers you don't want and delete them.

Regarding clicking a running program bringing it to the front that's expected to happen and is working for me albeit on 5.x.  Have you changed anything there ?

After fiddling a bit with this process I find that my back pain doesn't allow for enough patience with it. I'll return to it when my pain is less, thanks. One comment, though, it seems way overly complex in the interest of greater customizing.
Also, today clicking on the various progs in my taskbar does bring them forward. Electrons!
