Title: How do I remove Google Search Engine Bar from Mozilla Firefox?
Post by: m654321 on September 04, 2014, 02:24:37 AM
Firefox (or rather Mozilla-Firefox) is my default browser. However, when I click the '+' (new tab) on my Firefox browser, the Google toolbar appears, and lists any searches I make in my default Firefox!

I'd rather not have Google at all, in any shape or form in Firefox.  Is it possible to remove it or is it inextricably embedded in Firefox.  Therefore, can I remove Google from my Firefox browser?  Is it possible using command line?

Many thanks in advance for any help on this.
Kind regards
Mike

Hi m654321,

If you could post a picture of the issue that would be very helpful. A number of possible solutions come to mind but I'm not 100% clear on the problem.

Thanks,
Scott

If you see that, then go to the up right corner and click that button you see at the image. That just hides all the stuff.

m654321,

When you hit the "+" button for a new tab, it will display a page with whatever search engine you currently have set as default to be used in the search box along top of FF and also various recent pages you may have browsed to.

If you want to get rid of Google, just click the upside-down triangle next to Google in the search box and choose "Manage Search Engines".

In Manage Search Engine List, highlight Google and click "Remove" button.  You can add other engines to choices available by clicking "Get more search engines...".  You can arrange their order with "Move Up" and "Move Down" buttons.

When back on main FF window, just click the upside-down triangle and choose the engine you want to use from list you see.  That engine will then be what you see along top of the new tab page when you click the "+" button.
