Hi Scott
Tried setting up a different user account as suggested -- Video Stutters
Tried Lite 2  using a  Pen Drive---- Video Stutters
Firefox----Video works OK
Tried using Chrome in Windows 7 (dual Boot)--- Video works OK

It appears to be something that's incompatible between this Samsung computer / BBC video's / Flash / Chrome /  Linux-Lite .

I feel that is such an isolated problem that there is no point in in wasting any more effort trying to find a solution
Thanks for everyone's  help .

Colin

Hi
I have tried an old Advent 4211which has  I.6Ghz duel core CPU . The BBC videos play OK without stuttering

At the moment it looks like the problem is on my Samsung NC 110 which I normally use .

Not sure if its relevant but today I had a similar problem on a You-Tube video . There appeared to be some sort of system overload as the browser would not respond properly to me Pausing the video and also I could not highlight the URL to copy it until the video stopped . The same Video worked OK in incognito mode and then later in normal mode after I closed and restarted Chrome

Hi Colin23erk,

I'm curious if the problem you're experiencing with Chrome is system wide or limited to the current user account. When you have time create a new user account (like testing account). That is first name is testing and last name is account, or something similar. Logout of your current account and login to the new testing account and test Chrome, does the problem still happen?

Colin,
See if  this helps
Enable hardware acceleration in the Crome.
Open the Google Chrome. Check if it's allready enabled: In the address bar type chrome://gpu and hit Enter.
If it's not then type this in your browser chrome://flags
Search for "Override software rendering list" and enable it then check again with chrome://gpu
Test the video playback.

Hi Colin23erk,

The video plays fine for me in Chrome.
Chrome version 37.0.2062.94 (64-bit)
Adobe Flash Player - Version: 14.0.0.177

I can't imagine what could be causing the problem. Have you tried the BBC link in incognito mode?

Well, you answered my next question.

Which makes me wonder if it's possibly a setting or an addon/extension causing interference.

Incognito
Any difference good or bad if you run the video in an incognito window? For incognito in Chrome go to Menu button (top right corner) > new incognito window

Plugins
Anything look unusual? I'm wondering if the Chrome installation difficulties caused plugins to duplicate or generally not install properly.

Here are the plugins I'm running, enable/disable to experiment.

To view plugins copy and past this into a new chrome tab/window
Code: [Select]
chrome://plugins
Here's a picture of my plugins page

Click to play setting
This setting will make it so a click on the video is required to begin video playback on any webpage. This can help performance in certain situations.

To view extensions paste this into a new chrome tab/window
Code: [Select]
chrome://extensions/
At bottom click of settings section click "show advanced settings"
In Privacy section click button "Content settings"
Scroll to Plug-ins, change option to "click to play"

Here's a picture of the setting on my computer

Hi Rob

Do not think it is resources as You Tube runs OK . My Samsung is Quad Core and 2Gb Memory . My internet is generally OK and the problem is always there .
.
If I use Firefox the video runs normally .

There have been problems with Chrome and Flash but You Tube works but not the BBC . Could it be to do with Frame Rate or Frame Size

Hello!

Low bandwidth and/or low PC resources can both cause choppy video. Is it ALWAYS choppy, or is it better at certain times od the day than at others?

Your shortcut played fine here on a LL 2.0 LiveCD, but I'm on a quad-core netbook with 4 GB RAM and a 12 Mb/s Net connection...

Hello Scott

Yes Stutter is a good way to put it . Another way is it shows a still frame then jumps to one further on throughout the clip . Sounds to me as if it is loosing sync but manages to get an odd frame to sync and update the display .

If I try to watch BBC News videos -- Sound is normal but the video  only shows occasional good still frames

I need to take a quick step back and make sure I understand the problem. You mentioned "sound is normal but the video  only shows occasional good still frames."

Does that mean the video stutters on playback or something else?

Hi Scott

This is a sample page that fails
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-28344066

Just checked Google Chrome and it is Version 35.0.1916.153

I originally had to use the download from Google because the " Install Additional Software Option 2 "did not want to set up .
Just tried the Install Updates but no  updates needed

Then I tried Install Additional Software Option 2 which worked this time .
After a Lite restart   Chrome is now Version 36.0.1985.125

I used the link I have given you above and the problem still happens as it does with another one

Colin
