Change DNS server URL - to Pi-Hole server?

(1/1)

stevef:
As I remember,  manually setting IP addressing was done through the network icon, but I don't recall all the detail.

If the DHCP server is set to give out the pi-hole address as DNS to clients, it should work across the board - so you need to investigate what is going on there, otherwise you'll need to be tweaking all your devices.

However, 3.8 is out of support and isn't getting updated.   Connecting any device with unpatched software to the Internet is a security risk.

Either set your DHCP server (probably your router) to give out the pi-hole address for DNS.
Or set your Linux Lite machine not to use DHCP and manually assign fixed values to suit your set up for

IP Address
Mask
Default Gateway

Sorry - I don't know where to set those parameters within my Linux Lite network settings
I do have the ISP router configured with the PI Hole IP - but it didn't work.

However - after some extensive digging around online - any playing with several options - I believe I have one that will work.
I added a line to the /etc/network/interfaces file
The line is like this: dns-nameserver (Pi-Hole IP address here)

Now at system startup - this IP address is added to the Network DNS list.
And is the first item on the list.
So I think that will do the job.
Thanks!

Hello All,
I have Linux Lite 3.8 on an older 32bit laptop
The Ubuntu version is 16.04

I've recently built a Pi-Hole system
When I select "Network" in the Linux settings - I can change the default IP address to my PI-hole address - and the system works.
But as soon as I restart the OS - it reverts back to the default IP address.

Can anyone tell me what file I should update with my PI-Hole's IP address - so that it becomes the default DNS IP address?
Sincere thanks!
