Hello!

I have looked at NUCs recently. They seem to have some graphics chip and performance issues that remain to be worked out before I can consider buying one myself. Right now, they also cost as much, or more, than a more powerful desktop PC. We'll see what mass production does to the price range of them.

Right now, I'm up to my neck with laptops and notebooks here, so I'm thinking of a more powerful Media Center desktop PC for my next computer purchase. Mother needs something more beefy to handle her Roku...

Thanks for the suggestion.
The reason I use the eMMC is to give another level of security. If the SSD fails I still have a system working on the eMMC. I use this computer primarily for navigation of my boat.

Hello!

Since you have an SSD, a larger SSD with room for both operating systems would go a long way towards fixing your space problem. Additionally, there are things you can do to Windows to gain space for some of the Linux stuff or perhaps even space for a dual boot - like:

1. Cleaning the Windows registry with something like CCleaner or Glary Utilties (I use both) to stay on top of unneeded registry entries and temporary files.

2. Using Windows' Disk Cleanup to remove the 2-3 GB of stuff left behind after EVERY new Windows install, to include Windows Update backup files.

Short of defragmentation, I try to squeeze every byte from my SSDs that I can...

Thanks all, lots of good info.
Bleachbit and removing Firefox to replace it with Midori has fixed it all. Now have 380meg free. Very happy with the Linux Lite.

Just for your info, I also have an SSD in the NUC which I use purely for Windows 7. Boots the eMMC then Grub gives the option of Linux Lite or Windows 7. Works well! ;D

Hi,

You could try to install "Bleachbit"
Menu > System > Install/Remove Software
Search for Bleachbit

Do not use Clear Memory, Clear Disk Space or Bash/History

I have found it clears a large number of unused Language Files.
Even if you have set your own specific Language(s)
Updates and installs include other Languages.

Make a backup if you are unsure.

GL... Dave

You can't upgrade the eMMC. You could install the Midori web browser, its light, basic and small. FF and Chrome are just to heavy for the NUC you're using. Then clean your system regularly using Lite Tweaks.

Done, still no space. OK, if you reckon 4gig not enough, will remove opencpn and replace it with the tiny opencpn ans see how I go.  Thanks for your help..

Do Autoremove Packages and Package cache. Then see how much space you have. In all honesty, 4gb is just not enough to run an OS full time. I tried to explain this to Intel but it fell on deaf ears.

Done as requested.. When running it said - 1 to remove, 204 not upgraded.

Now shows, after doing the Lite Tweaks, 144.2meg free 96% used. Now I don't have a web browser, so I guess I will install chrome if there is enough space..
