  • Kernel: 5.x
Old problem but seems to have recurred. Just did a fresh install of LL2.6 on a Packard Bell "Vista" era desktop. Athlon 64 2.4GHz, 2.5GB RAM, NVidea C61 GForce 6160 graphics. Starting Firefox (40.0.3) gave immediate system crash - not even mouse pointer movement and weird screen - repeated small patterns with nothing intelligable. Hard reset was needed. Tried Chrome and got the same. Used "Settings/Install Drivers" to replace video driver  from X.Org with "Tested propietory" NV legacy 304 125 and all seems OK.
Desktop: Running LL5 on second HD in ACEPC model MK1: "Mini PC 4GB RAM 64GB ROM Windows 10 Celeron J3455 Processor Mini Computer Dual HDMI, Support mSATA / 2.5 inches SSD/HDD 4K, Dual Band WiFi, Gigabit Ethernet, USB 3.0". Don't normally use the supplied W10. Also use LL on netbook (Using xrandr to "expand" the screen) and various old laptops. NAS drive and web server hosted by Raspberry Pi's.

You could have some addons that aren t compatible or have ff crashing , just remove or disable to see if it works on your end .

everything is up to date...

and the solution is only a temporary fix apparently...because it's crashing the system again when I try to load firefox once again...

so I found the answer in a previous discussion, sorry for starting this topic...

but...I will say...that before I "solved" the issue by starting FF in safemode to refresh it, then disabled the ubuntu extension...that the first attempt to start firefox in safemode crashed the system, screen locked, just like any other time....

I installed Linux Lite 2.2 (my first try using a Linux OS), and everything seemed to go smoothly (I installed Ubuntu 14.04 first and it would crash immediately after login with a weird screen glitch).

The first thing I did after installing LL was update the software, and then added additional software like deluge, games, and chrome.....

I remember FF loading and working fine before installing the additional software, but since then anytime I try to load it, it crashes Linux Lite with a weird cascading screen glitch. Once I was able to load FF without crashing by selecting the help and manuals link from the Menu instead of clicking the Firefox button from the launcher.

Chrome works great though...and so far FF seems to be the only thing crashing everything....

ultra newb here...
