Title: [SOLVED] Dark Notification Icon Background in MediterraneanLight Theme?
Post by: N4RPS on March 12, 2015, 11:10:36 PM
Hello, All!

How do I get dark Notification Area icon backgrounds in the panel of the MediterraneanLight Theme?

Here's a screenshot, to help explain:

At least My-Weather-Indicator lets you choose between light and dark icons.

I could load the other affected icons into GIMP and edit the backgrounds to be transparent, but that's a hassle. No doubt I'd have to do that for most of the new notification icons other programs add.

Since I tend towards finding the most difficult way to do just about EVERYTHING, I figured I'd ask to see if there's an easier solution out there than mine..

Hi Rob,
I don't know about this specific situation but when this sort of thing happens to me logging out and back in usually clears it.

Hello!

I tried what you suggested. It changed some of them, but the icons in the notification area (Bluetooth, wireless, and volume) are still dark on a light background. (Tuirns out they're a part of the icon theme.)

After a little digging around online, it looks like the hard road for me after all. Will download a bunch of different icon themes until I get one that will do the trick...

For those of us with less than ideal eyesight, please use imgur or some other image upload service that doesn't create small thumbnails. Thank you.

Hello, Jerry.

I used the default for the screenshooter, ZImageZ. Clicking the image makes it larger than the imgur link.

Oh, well... Moved to imgur...

Thanks Rob, you can also just restart the panel to test out themes: xfce4-panel --restart

Hello!

In their eminent wisdom, the folks at XFCE have modified Indicator Plugin to coexist with Unity - something I don't understand, seeing as how Unity fans detest XFCE, and vice versa. As a result, Indicator Plugin now works correctly with Gtk3 themes now.

Workaround: Delete Indicator Plugin from the panel, so the Indicator Plugin icons appear in the Notification Area, instead. Go figure.

At least I can partake of dark themes now...
