Title: Disable NUMLOCK on Startup in Linux Lite
Post by: N4RPS on February 21, 2014, 09:42:46 AM
Hello!

There was a post in the old forum about this subject. Won't quote it ALL - just enough to get the point across:

"This only applies if your BIOS has such an option to do that, and if it doesn't, we will help you to change Linux Lite to turn it off automatically, upon OS boot-up."

The BIOS in the laptop I'm installing LL on doesn't support disabling NUMLOCK in the BIOS.

Many thanks to ALL of you, for your great support.

Hi
I have a Netbook with no indication of Number lock ON and no separate Numeric Keypad and get frustrated by L Lite  turning it on every boot when i use a letter key and get a number .

I was hoping that you had supplied a link  :(

Please can you help  me turn it off at boot in L Lite  . I tried L Mint and it does not happen -but I prefer Lite except the dull colour schemes .

Hello!

I had the same problem YOU did pop up on me last night, on a Gateway Tablet PC. I turned NUM LOCK off by using the Fn-Scroll key, went to Menu > Settings > Keyboard, unchecked the 'Restore Num Lock State on Startup' box, and rebooted. No more Num Lock on startup!

Also, holding the Fn key when pressing the number/letter keys in Num Lock will enter the letter, and not the number...

If you are using a laptop/netbook this might help.

"Disable NumLock with Fn key

Most laptops have a Fn key you can press in conjunction with other keys to turn off the NumLock feature. But the precise way to disable NumLock varies depending on your laptop model. The Number Lock indicator will light up when the NumLock is enabled and will be unlit whenever the NumLock is disabled. Here are the most common keyboard shortcuts to enable/disable NumLock:

Fn + F11 (Acer, Toshiba, Samsung)
Shift + Num Lock
Fn + Num Lock (Sony, Gateway)
Fn + F11 + Scroll lock
Fn + F8 (HP)
Ctrl + F11
Fn + Shift + Num Lock
Fn + F4 (Dell)
Fn + Nmlk (Lenovo, ASUS)

After pressing the keyboard shortcuts to enable the NumLock, press the shortcuts again and it will disable NumLock."

Hope that helps. :)

Hello!

On most lappies and netbooks, the Fn key will usually be at the bottom left of the keyboard, next to the left CTRL key.

Some manufacturers, like Gateway, reverse the Fn and CTRL keys. This can be quite annoying when trying to do a CTRL-related action...
