So you never installed the Google Chrome browser in Linux Lite and tried YouTube from there?

My suggestion would be to test your network connection and see if it is consistently running at the same speed. Major inconsistencies in speed between multiple tests is a pretty good indication of a network problem. This is the network speed tester I use, it doesn't require flash.

http://openspeedtest.com/

Run the test, note the speed, and repeat 3 or four times to get an idea of how your network functions.

To technomancer,

I think you are correct.  I don't think you log into Minitube.  Furthermore, if someone sends you an email of a YouTube link, when you click on it, by default it will want to open using your default browser.  That is why I suggest having Minitube as a backup.  I really do try to get YouTube to perform well within a browser, in full screen, on at least 720p HD first.  But I keep Minitube as an arrow in the quiver.

Most of the time Firefox is just fine for the computers I've helped people with.  Then for others, Firefox is fine until you want to go full screen.  Then it's choppy.  If changing video graphics drivers doesn't help, I try other browsers like Google Chrome and Chromium using the pepperflash plugin.  If I'm out of luck on that, Minitube is an option.

For my own laptop, Chromium handles full screen YouTube viewing great.  But for my older desktop, even with the correct NVIDIA driver selected, I find that Google Chrome is the only browser to allow me full screen, jitter free, video viewing.

In the meantime, we can continue to support the projects we use in the hopes that graphics drivers for Linux/Ubuntu will continue to get attention and that HTML5 will free us from choppy YouTube.com video viewing.

Thanks for the clarification torreydale. I like the Minitube interface, I'm going to support that project.
-I have Flash issues in Firefox but not in Google Chrome, but choppy full screen on every system I own no matter the browser (LL, Debian, Windowz) using intel, nvidia and ati video cards. So across the board issues. The Adobe Flash issues are a hot topic right now all over the web. As you said, supporting HTML5 projects will free us of these current issues.

I think you are right
This Samsung NC20 Netbook Specs are perhaps not good enough for modern internet standards.
I will give up i think
Thanks for all your efforts.

My opinion on this is that your VIA chipset/Video is the issue (or lack of correct/working drivers). If you tried another OS and have the same problem, Maybe Anti-x or Puppy linux would work. Both are small and live cds, if they work then its a config/driver issue. Or try Debian. First try a new clean install of LL 2.6. That is about all I have to offer in help since i don't have a VIA chipset to test on for you.

Do you really mean you tried Chrome OS (Chromixium), or did you try installing the Google Chrome browser via Lite Software?

@arjaffer - just for clarification for torreydale, myself and others...

...
But youtube on Firefox or Chromium is choppy
I have tried to change swapiness but no luck
....
I have also tried Chrome OS (chromixium) have found the same problem.

From my understanding; you've tested on the below???

    Operating Systems
    • Linux Lite  ;)
    • Chrome OS (Chromixium)

Internet Browser (Installed via "Install Lite Software" or "apt-get")
    • Chromium - (Open source version of Chrome)
    • Google Chrome - Google's Chrome Browser
    • Fire Fox - Mozilla's Browser

Before giving up I would try to again connecting directly to the network modem by a ether-net cable and see if that improves the playback. That is assuming you are not already. It could be an issue with the network dropping packets, which then have to be sent again, causing a delay and possibly the choppy video.

Minitube is iffy at best because youtube changes it's format to block minitube from working.
I am guessing because of the down loader function in minitube.

Flavio has to issue bug fixes because of this. Which some users may not be aware of.

After reading that. I take back what I said about not strong enough. Specs sound close to my M&A Companion Atom cpu Netbook that plays Youtube OK. But I have a intel video chip while yours is via.

Quote
When directly comparing the SiSoftware Sandra Dhrystone (Integer calcuations) and the Whetstone (Decimal place calculation) benchmarks, one can say that the VIA Nano CPU is somewhat better than the latest Atom CPU (N280 in the Acer One D150). In this performance test, however, the immense performance plus of the Intel Core 2 Duo SU and SL energy-saving processors, both of which operate at a lower speed, but still have access to great reserves of performance, becomes clear.
However, the calculation of the number pi, with the help of the benchmark SuperPi, allowed the Atom CPU from Intel to take the lead again. The Atom CPU manages to finish the calculation to 32 million decimal places somewhat faster than the VIA CPU.

So I have to ask again. Did you md5sum Linux-Lite iso to check for a corrupted iso download before installing?

I have installed the version from the web
Having lauched minitube, and click on the play button, videos do not play.
So I am fast coming to the conclusion that the Samsung Netbook NC20 will not play youtube satisfactorily
Thanks for all you help.
