Selenium could you please write a small guide on where to find that file and what part to edit of the file?

I have a an old dell dv6 pavillion laptop and the brightness keys work (as in they show the graphical element of the brightness bar going up and down) but the brightness remains unchanged, same when i manually alter it in the control panel.

I'm just stuck with MAX brightness, very frustrating!

please help :P

No good.

But I figured it out, putting "Option      "RegistryDwords" "EnableBrightnessControl=1"" in the appropriate area of /etc/X11/xorg.conf sorted it out.

However, I can lower the brightness 6 times fine..but when I lower it once more the screen goes black and completely unresponsive. Can't figure it out. That being said, 6 levels of brightness is enough, but I find it curious all the same.

Installed Linux Lite on my mate's old laptop last week, his major complain being that he can't change the brightness. Not by the Fn keys or elsewhere.

Anyone got any clue on how to fix that? Real Linux newbie here still, but I installed Linux Lite so that his dying laptop could perhaps last a little longer. Windows was crippling it even further.

So, any thoughts on how to troubleshoot/fix that?
