I'm surprised Xfce is the author's second favorite desktop environment based on the tone I perceived.  Nevertheless, hopefully the project is paying attention to the author's comments.

In terms of weight, I don't see much difference in the weight of, say, Linux Mint's implementation of Cinnamon or MATE from Linux Lite's Xfce.  So I scratch my head some when I hear people refer to Xfce as the lightweight desktop environment, but they use different adjectives when describing Cinnamon and MATE.

Even the Mint folks call Cinnamon modern, comfortable, and elegant.  And they call MATE classic, stable, and functional.  And reviewers can't seem to help themselves when reviewing Linux Lite.  The Lite name guides them in their remarks.  They say "It's lightweight," "It runs the Xfce desktop environment."  They combine those thoughts and they often follow it up with "It's for older computers."

Xfce, to me, boots about the same, shuts down about the same, and once at the desktop with nothing open, uses about the same amount of resources as MATE and Cinnamon.  Hopefully the Xfce developers don't see Xfce as just a lightweight desktop environment.  It might blind them to developing or adopting the features they might admire in environments like MATE and Cinnamon.

Great information. It's nice to know that development work continues on XFCE and it's always exciting to look forward to new features. Slow *stable* development is fine but I've been secretly hoping that something world spark more developer interest and speed things up a bit.
