i put linux lite on three different computer ranging from old to new, and none of them needed the drivers that windows even required for literally everything to work. mic, graphics, burner, wifi, so on... i have no need for all the windows drivers cds i needed before. this is really an amazing experience for a new linux user and i hope it kills microsoft asap.

Hello!

If I had to pick one advantage Ubuntu has over Debian, it would have to be DRIVER SUPPORT. Although most Ubuntu programs will run on Debian, Ubuntu seems to be the preferred platform for software development...

... surely the developer would be the best to answer this question ... just an aside, if you solve a problem by using another forum it would be nice to see the issue and outcome posted here :)

Thanks. I have been waiting from "the" answer from the developer before considering the question solved here. I was asking what were the advantages and disadvantages of Debian based vs. Ubuntu based distros on the other forum.

Quote from: Brian on July 19, 2014, 11:35:17 AM, "The advantage of using an Ubuntu based distro over a straight Debian based distro is the selection of software available in Ubuntu's repositories. ..."

Quote from: Tible on July 19, 2014, 12:03:39 PM 'Ubuntu based distros focus on ease of use. Works out of the box and easy to install software.
Debian (Stable&Testing) based distros are usually geared toward stability and are not as easy to use. Sometimes work out of the box, can be more difficult to install software. (no software center by default, can use synaptic)
Debian (Unstable) based distros are geared toward more experienced linux users (intermediate) as are many rolling release distros. About the same difficulty in software installation as the previous but with possible bugs and some instability (depending on the software)."

This reply is based on my *nix experience, there may be a more in-depth answer and surely the developer would be the best to answer this question ... however ... as someone who first used Red Hat back in 1999,  Ubuntu has a excellent developer base, it has the software repository, and that repository is available to LL users, so no need to wail at a lack of programs to cover one's needs, stable as well as driver support, apart from the LL forum, use the Ubuntu forums for answers regarding Kernel issues etc, most of the problems or questions encountered here are surely covered there! ... just an aside, if you solve a problem by using another forum it would be nice to see the issue and outcome posted here :)

Sure there is a good reason but just wondering why Linux Lite is based on Ubuntu rather than directly on Debian?
