"The Federation is like root beer. It's all sweet and bubbly! But once you drink enough of it, you begin to like it."

Real quote but reciting from memory of about 20 years ago ;)
If you can guess where is comes from (WITHOUT Google), you WIN!

Cheers!

Ah yes, the Federation!  That's what people in the decentralized, federated, open-source social networks call themselves.  Diaspora (like FarceBook), Mastodon (like Twitter), Friendica (blogging).  After the whole Facebook / Google spying scandals, "the Federation" is drawing lots of new users lately.

What is federation?  Think of it like e-mail.  Many providers, not all on one massive centralized server, but decentralized.  Yet able to reach anywhere.  It's kinda cool.  I've been giving it another shot lately after a prior bad experience, and it looks like it's really improving.

I like to think of MS as the Borg, cold, robotic, claiming to be superior and LL as Species 8472, the unknown, the underestimated, peaceful until messed with. Then the next natural question is, who are The Federation?

Windows only allows installs through their store. So developers must comply. Or they won't be assimilated. Right now. It is only cli.

Missed that one!  But if it had been real, my laptop would have suddenly started to hog my (despairingly slow) broadband with perpetual updates, constantly sent me reminders that there are applications draining my battery (even though I'm plugged into the mains), and hide everything useful from me so that I have to pay a Microsoft Certified Engineer to fix even the most minor problem (who had to pay Microsoft for the training); and then just blue-screen, requiring at least 7 days and £60 for the local computer shop to fix...

...Whereas LL downloads what and when I want, doesn't bother me with unwanted fluff, is expertly supported by you guys, runs like a dream, can be reinstalled in an afternoon...

...and all for no licence fee other than whatever donations I can afford.  :)

So.  That WAS an April Fool's joke, yes...?   :-\  ;D
Don't worry about artificial intelligence.  Worry about natural stupidity.  :)

All opinions expressed and all advice given by Trinidad Cruz on this forum are his responsibility alone and do not necessarily reflect the views or methods of the developers of Linux Lite. He is a citizen of the United States where it is acceptable to occasionally be uninformed and inept as long as you pay your taxes.

April Fool!
But ...
64bit OS (32-bit on Samsung netbook) installed in Legacy mode on MBR-formatted SSDs (except pi which uses a micro SDHC card):
2017 - Raspberry pi 3B (4cores) ~ [email protected] - LibreElec, used for upgrading our Samsung TV (excellent for the task)
2012 - Lenovo G580 2689 (2cores; 4threads] ~ [email protected] - LL3.8/Win8.1 dual-boot (LL working smoothly)
2011 - Samsung NP-N145 Plus (1core; 2threads) ~ Intel Atom [email protected] - LL 3.8 32-bit (64-bit too 'laggy')
2008 - Asus X71Q (2cores) ~ Intel [email protected] - LL4.6/Win8.1 dual-boot, LL works fine with kernel 4.15
2007 - Dell Latitude D630 (2cores) ~ Intel [email protected] - LL4.6, works well with kernel 4.4; 4.15 doesn't work
