Howdy Jerry,
Thanks for the information, it was a bit surprising to me after reading the article that all of Linux Lite security & software updates were left up to one entity run by one person.  Nothing against New Zealand as I'm happy you're keeping us and Linux Lite users safe, I appreciate your hard work and dedication to this OS that frankly a lot of us take for granted.  Keep up the good work.

best regards,
Vint,
God Bless Texas

Roughly translated, the previous server that served you and everyone's Lite application updates, kernels, ISO's and upgrade files was about to go offline. The organisation (see above article) could no longer offer this service, which is what they were doing for us for free (they reached out initially).

It all boils down to, who can you rely on? Yourself usually, or in this case, our community who came to the rescue with funding for our new server. Yes, I am in New Zealand but location does not equate to poorer management of services. If I lived in the US and the new server was in the US, I'd still have to remote into it to manage it.

Howdy Jerry,
I read the article and your comments, since I know almost nothing about this stuff except the obvious could explain to us novices what no more free services mean.  If I read this correctly repository services will be run by you in New Zealand?  What does that mean for us using Linux Lite and the future?

Vint,

I know this is a hassle, but we will NOT be using any more 'free' services, even from the open source community.

This is what happened very suddenly - https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/technology/open-source-software-host-fosshost-shutting-down-as-ceo-unreachable/

I have bought and are managing myself, a brand new Repository server. Thanks to contributions from the community.

We're changing Repositories, Install Updates may be down for a while. We'll keep you notified.

This means that if you run Install Updates, and you get an error, the new Repository has not yet had it's DNS records updated. Usually this takes a period of up to 24 hours to be recognized.
