Title: SourceForge thinks Linux Lite 3.0 Beta is malware
Post by: Jerry on May 17, 2016, 12:41:54 AM
Really??? I've asked them for an explanation for this.

Look like they don't want to host Linux ISO's any more.

That's real rich coming from them considering they bundle malware in their installers sometimes.

My thoughts exactly. They've removed the malware warning now. ???

Have you considered another file host such as Internet Archive or ibiblio?

I'm seriously considering it :)

Another way to go about it is to just use torrents. Ibiblio has a service called terasaur  (http://terasaur.org)to host the iso files.

Thanks Mike, I'll research terasaur.

I'm sitting here scratching my head why you haven't done it sooner? Use Github or hell even FileHippo. SourceForge has long proved their dishonesty and trust when GIMP was compromised.

Here is some alternatives if you want to look at that.

Thanks Teddy, but those hosts are for software projects for hosting code, not ISO's. TBH, SourceForge bring a lot of traffic to our website, and help with our presence online ie. it helps make finding us easier. I'm still open to a service that is free and lets us host Gb's worth of iso's, and will be around for a long time. There are many considerations here. With GIMP and other software, that's all they targeted, software. Ours and other projects ISO's were never targeted. I'm not condoning what they did, just pointing out the difference objectively.

I didn't take the traffic that SourceForge provides us into consideration. Thank you for pointing that out.  Maybe as a workaround, you could instead link the ISOs to another download location from the main project page (LL repositories for example), where SourceForge doesn't have access to edit. Hopefully it isn't classified as malware for doing that...

We can't afford that, plus the transfer rates p/month are small. Thanks anyway.

Here is who i use for my personal website   https://asmallorange.com/hosting/shared/ (https://asmallorange.com/hosting/shared/)
Jerry, Let me know exactly what bandwith and space you need and i will start searching if they don't meet your needs. (Cost allowed as well)
Or for torrents this may work but i do not know the details   http://linuxtracker.org/ (http://linuxtracker.org/)
There has to be something out there ! LOL

Just to give folks an idea, we need at the very least 10Tb of bandwidth a month, and around 100Gb+ of storage. We serve ISO's that are not only accessed by the public, but also by other mirrors around the world.
