firenice03, thanks for your reply.

My question was just a narrow one of curiosity about what happens at user's end when an End of Support deadline arrives -- and exactly what the "you-are-shut-out" moment (Day/HOUR) occurs for access to updates (in this case its Xenial LTS, I think).

UPDATE:

I realized this was really a question about Ubuntu LTS expirations and not Linux Lite. Hence I searched up:

"Ubuntu 16.04 is officially supported until April 30th, 2021. After that date, it will not receive any software or security updates."

That answers my question!

:::

Thank you for your cautions about security.

This is an old unit that put Linux (Lite) on just for fun. It is an old electronic dinosaur I keep in the closet and pull out maybe twice a year.

So I don't have a concern about security because I don't use it for anything important.

It's not my main computer. The only browser that works at all is an ancient version of Midori...with Javascript turned off.

Thanks again!

Split Topic from LL5.4

@Lovelinuxlux
The take away is - there is nothing NEW for this version beyond this date....As each day passes you'll become less and less secure...
As to when the last of the updates are removed from the repos; this may depend..

Having the older no longer used data, takes up space....

If you decide to spin up a new LL3.x next month will it get the last/recent updates?
- Even if so, its a false feeling there isn't anything new....

I hate to leave behind my mini.... but its had a good run.
Should you want to keep it hanging on (although without internet - where the vulnerabilities live)..
I would make a Systemback back up to be able to revert back to this last good state....
And/or have some type of other backup.. Clonezilla or the alike should you have the need...

Good Luck!!

When "End of Support" for a prior version is cited as FIRST of a given month (like today, April 1), does that mean User has until end of today (April 1) to do Software Updates (such as for Linux Lite 3)...or does the deadline for End of Support exist as midnight at the end of the last day of prior month?

I just ran Update Software for Linux Lite 3 and it did do various updates. Ancient 32-bit Toshiba A-75.

What is the absolute DAY / HOUR / SECOND that "End of Support" for previous version actually occurs...and for which updates are then inaccessible?
