Hi,

I'm sure it would,
Now I know what the issue is, I tried doing a Live boot of LL 2.0 & 2.2,
and the problem is the same, if I remove HDMI, I loose the xfce desktop.

It's something I would never of thought of doing during a Live boot, remove HDMI cable.

Quick update on the xfce/HDMI issue

> Have asked the question on bugzilla.xfce on how to apply the fix, no response yet.
> Did another test with a live boot of another xfce distro, Antix-MX14, and that works fine, do not loose the desktop.

Hi altman,

This is the xfce/hdmi issue ;)
There appears to be a fix, but not sure how to apply/do it.?
I may try posting in the referenced thread.
But that seems focused on the Bug/Fix/Verification, rather than a How To.

I have another thread on WiFi.

Hi,

Not giving up, more Googling led me to this:
It talks about TV on HDMI being turned OFF,
Which is what I suspect the result of me me switching inputs on the display.??
https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11107

It seems like it's what I'm experiencing,, But not sure what to do.?
There are some patches, but I have no idea what to do with them.?

There is also this:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-settings/+bug/1308105

Any pointers on what to do welcome

To put this thread back on track.

Summary:
I have a Monitor with 2 X HDMI inputs
Original PC ~ LL 2.0 on HDMI#1 , New PC ~ LL 2.2 on HDMI#2
If I swap the input on monitor between HDMI#1 & #2
I loose the xfce desktop on New PC on HDMI#2

It is not the monitor/cables I have swapped around cables and input sockets.

I do believe it is LL 2.2 config/set-up.?.. Why.??

In an effort to diagnose a separate WiFi issue I created a Ubuntu 14.10 (kernel 3.16) live boot USB stick.
(( WiFi issue to be described in another thread ))

What I found was If I boot the Ubuntu, I'm able to switch the display between LL 2.0 & Ubuntu without any issues.
To re-verify, I then booted my LL 2.2 Live USB stick, I see the same issue with Live and Installed, If I switch my
monitor input I loose my desktop. The only way to get it back is a ctrl-alt-F3 and do a:
Code: [Select]
sudo service lightdm restart

Thanks... Dave

Update,

It appears the WiFi Fix is not stable... After a period of time, 1 ~ 2 hours it starts to disconnect.
I'm going to start another thread, otherwise this thread will become even more confusing.

Hi,

*** UPDATE: This does not appear to be a stable fix ~ NEW Thread to be started ***

Found a solution to the WiFi drivers after some Googling
If you have WiFi based on: rtl8723be Chipset, then

Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-generic build-essential git
git clone http://github.com/lwfinger/rtl8723be
cd rtl8723be
git checkout 604aa9058fb9e5bb1cf571c99989d081f8fc8b9
make
sudo make install
sudo modprobe rtl8723be

Now they show up in dmseg log:
Code: [Select]
[    5.843191] rtl8723be: Using firmware rtlwifi/rtl8723befw.bin
[    5.884726] ieee80211 phy0: Selected rate control algorithm 'rtl_rc'
[    5.885072] rtlwifi: wireless switch is on

Just hope this didn't break anything else...!!!

Dave
