In Linux Lite 3.8, we will have our own Google Search home page.
The idea behind this is to try and pull in a little more ad revenue to help fund the project, whilst still giving a familiar search engine experience.

Please help to test this out, and if you have any suggestions, I'll certainly consider them.

@Jerry does it create revenue by searching, or only if the ad is clicked ?

After clicking is there a duration to remain on the ad site so LL gets revenue, or it requires purchases on the ad site for LL to earn revenue ?
Is it only begin to raise revenue after LL 3.8 release, or using the link you provided in advance is working now for this.
Is working well, I tested it and had no problems.

Keep in mind folks, that there is no auto-complete. I've spent nearly all day researching this, and people are saying it's flakey.

I'll use it but I wish it was DuckDuckGo or Searx or one of those privacy-respecting search engines instead. But I'll use it periodically to help Linux Lite!

What does this exactly mean? I use google as my search engine in Opera. Is this to be on Firefox? In LL 3.8?

I do have auto-complete, but then like I said is my primary search engine so I don't know if that's the reason why. Should I try this on Firefox? Best of luck by the way on this new enterprise! :)

@Moltke It's a Google powered search engine so yes, you will get the same results as if you had set your home page to Google. This will be in Firefox in 3.8
Adblock has to be off, then there will be ads at the top. You can try it on any browser you like.

Duration - there is no duration. Revenue started the moment I uploaded the Search page. I would ask people not to click on an ad unless it specifically interests them.

Suggestion -
on left of posts in forum, for user infos, lower (central approx.) is "Reputation" under it there are icons, some do go externally eg; website, blogs, I suggest an icon in this row, maybe nearest to the post wording (right end of row) to click for using the LL search.
You may have to re-word this, I'm finding it difficult to understand. May I also suggest that you create an entirely new post if you have any new comments, if you re-edit an existing one, I may miss it altogether. Thank you :)

I was a little confused as I expected the Google Search to only search within Linux Lite, but it didn't. In any case it looks fine. When you mean it's the home page for LL 3.8, do you mean it's the browser home page? If so then I think that will work out fine without causing any confusion about what it's supposed to search for.

@Vera the approach was to make the home page look as familiar to Google search users as possible so that hopefully, there would be no confusion as to its purpose.

Thanks for the clarifying, but I'm still I bit confused about how this works, I mean, I want to help by clicking those ads and as long as I don't have to buy anything, but I see none, and yes I turned adblock off. Let me see if I get it right; if I click on this link https://www.linuxliteos.com/search/ am I supposed to see any ads?

That could get me in a world of trouble for click fraud and cost me my Adsense account, jeopardizing the continuation of this project and community. Of course I appreciate all your support.

3 - lower (central approx.) is "Reputation", #3 in pic
4 - below (lower down) "Reputation" under it there are icons, some do go externally eg; website, blogs, see #4 in pic.
If the Planet Earth icon amongst these is click it goes externally (out of the page to another page) eg; it will go to https://www.linuxliteos.com/
5 - I suggest an icon in this row, at position #5 in pic, at the right end of the row of icons.
6 - I mean an icon for people to click to visit and use the LL Search.

It is describing placement of a navigation icon to reach the Search Page
Suggesting the placement of icon, and suggesting its location at position #5 on the screenshot above.
Reasoning of position #5 =
1 - it is nearest to where the eyes are looking, when reading the forum posts, so is the best design placement to catch the eye, and create use of it.
2 - as the icons in row at position #4 in screenshot, are small discreet, other placements will make it "become losts", so it would become used less frequently etc.

A few things:
1. Yes the LinuxLite search page now shows country correctly for the US.
2. Just an idea to consider: have you thought of changing the bit that says "Linux Lite Support" to "visit Linux Lite Support"? Either that, or have the "Linux Lite Support" link appear in the line ABOVE the gmail, image links etc. Otherwise as it stands now there is a small chance that people will expect the search box to limit the search to what appears directly above it, which would be Linux Lite Support.
3. Separately, regarding only the proposed idea of a link to search in forum profile, it's an interesting idea but I personally would find it confusing. Unless the link was labelled just "Google" or something like that, and even then, I'd be under the impression that clicking on it would search only the support forums and nothing else. If that is the function of the proposed link in forum profile (i.e. a Google search within the LL forum site only) that would be fine, but if it goes to a general google search the exact same as the browser home page for 3.8, then it would be confusing to me.

Mine shows the correct nation too. To clarify for all. Open a link to the Search page, then set it up in your browser as your "home page" or "start" page.

@Jerry To answer your question, for the US the exact wording I'm seeing is "United States".
Thanks also for re-positioning the Linux Lite Support link. I like it even better where you put it than what I suggested.
