If all the flavors of "official" Ubuntu were counted as Ubuntu, I wonder if it wouldn't be number one.
Don't think so. And the same goes for Mint as well. Break down both OS'es to all flavours available and Mint will still be on the top i think. The Cinnamon desktop is really appealing to a lot of people. Can't say that of the Unity desktop... KDE and Xfce desktop are similar on all distro's so that doesn't really set any differences.

I'll put my dollar on Mint + Cinnamon ;)

No surprise here to see that Mint beat Ubuntu again. Ever since Ubuntu 11.04 with the Unity desktop Ubuntu is loosing users to Mint and other distro's but especially Mint. I have read discussion on the Ubuntu forums that this is just bullocks and bullshit and not so true... This poll proves it again that they are so wrong on the Ubuntu forums.....

To be fair, part of the problem is that Ubuntu usually means Ubuntu with Unity DE. Ubuntu has different names for each of its versions with a different DE (Ubuntu Mate, Xubuntu, Lubuntu, Kubuntu, etc.) plus Ubuntu Studio. Mint regardless of DE is counted as Mint. If all the flavors of "official" Ubuntu were counted as Ubuntu, I wonder if it wouldn't be number one.

Argh.  I didn't read the whole thread, signed up and tried to vote over there.

For anyone else reading, the poll is closed.

Linux Deepin puzzles me the most. It is a very outstanding distro with a very sleek desktop. The others i haven't heard of but Deepin i tried in a VM and it looks great. So surprised to see that none vote for it...

Just noticed 6 people voted for LL.

But my eye also saw this:

Linux Mint      201   26.76%
Ubuntu      94   12.52%

It might be early to come with any conclusions, but if you ask me... Ubuntu lost a big time against Linux Mint. Something which was predicted few years ago when Ubuntu introduced the Unity desktop while Mint was working hard on the road with their Mate and Cinnamon desktop and with their out-of-the-box principle regarding to multimedia support.

I don't think LL will end up in the top ten, but this poll can be a good indicator of how well know Linux Lite is.
