For months now, we have been losing the adblock battle on our website. Our ad revenue has been cut by nearly 1/2 due to adblockers.
This is severely impacting our progress, and delaying our ability to grow the project by months.
I respect peoples freedom to block Ads around the internet, especially the larger sites who make millions in ad revenue and who aren't severely impacted the way the little guys like us are. I make no apologies for introducing tougher measures to combat this issue, and take it personally as an assault on a small projects ability to grow.
In the future, where the project has enough ad revenue to provide fair incomes for developers, ad block measures will be relaxed in direct relation to where we are at in terms of being self-supported.

Umm... it may cause you to lose users than to fund the project...
-
And it may cause us to gain users too who believe that supporting a project that benefits them personally, is more important than popularity. Those that have a vision beyond their own personal preferences. If people are worried about privacy and being targeted, they should watch some Edward Snowden / NSA documentaries and realize that it will be done anyway.

OK Jerry, I am convinced. I had no idea revenue from ads made any difference. I don't understand how much is received from them. My ad blocker is off on linuxliteos.com for good.

Thank you Coastie, your support is appreciated. Imagine if somebody came along and took half of your wages, not very nice.

I've been able to participate on the forum as much as I have because it's one of the forums that isn't blocked at my day job. But they do have ad blockers installed at the server level. I have no control over that. I guess I'll see on Monday if I can get in.

Forums, Bugs, Screenshots are unaffected by the new adblock detector. Only the main site has changed.

Adblock off for the site.
Jocklad.

Try using http://adrecover.com/ (http://adrecover.com/). It will bypass the ad blocker so you will not need the ad block detector.

Wow! :o I had no idea it was that important.

Thanks, I'm researching this. Adblock already looking to circumvent it - https://adblockplus.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=47740

No problem. Just needed to know.

Thank you to all who have and who will add us to their whitelist. Much appreciated :)
-
Another who didn't realise that you had ads, I've always had the adblocker on.
Anyway off now :)

Jerry, does the site receive revenue just for showing the ads, or do they have to be clicked to generate income.
I can click on loads if it's beneficial ;)

Both visits and clicks. I appreciate the offer to click but it's against Googles T&C and their A.I. is very good at catching people out, which could cost me my account.

Understood.

Did you like it or not?

We won't be using it.

Interesting article on German courts ruling on ADBlock. http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2016/12/german-judges-explain-why-adblock-plus-is-legal/
Now if only the Supreme Court over here could do the same.

UPDATE: Either we're having a freak month, or this recent approach to ad blocking has impacted ad revenue positively. Will see what the next few months report as. But so far, so good. This has allowed me to take more days off work each week, and use that time to work on the project. Instant, positive impact.

I guess I wasn't the only one who did not understand how important it was to turn off the ad blocker off. :)
-
I'll turn it off when I use the main site too.

@bitsnpcs thank you :)
