I was wondering if anyone can make suggestions as to what would be a good Linux distro to try out on my ppc powerbook g4. I'd like to see if I can get some kind of linux going on that machine.

Never had used one...
A quick Google seems to imply Ubuntu based distros should work..??
What happens if you put a "Linux Lite" live CD/DVD in it, and try to boot from it.?
What I read was press "C" when powering on.?

I've got Ubuntu Mate running on a Mac Mini due to it being the only one with PPC support at the time and it works fine.
I would prefer to run Linux Lite if possible. Please post back if you manage to figure it out :)

Thanks for your input, will take your suggestions into consideration...
I did some reading and Yellowdog came up...
I downloaded it and will also download ubuntu mate, will be doing some testing, lets see what happens.
Will report back once I have some info to share.

Well, I went out and got the PPC Lubuntu and PPC Ubuntu Mate, got them onto a DVD and put them into the Powerbook. I was surprised as Lubuntu booted as did Ubuntu Mate. But the thing was, the screen background had a very strange pattern to it. I played around a bit but both of those distros would lock up. I then put in Yellowdog, it also booted up without those weird patterns, didn't have too much time to fiddle around with it, maybe later.
Ya, I guess if Yellowdog is not supported that might not be the way to go since I'd be doing things by myself.
For the time being, I am going to hold off a bit on the PPC stuff as I know I'd be fiddling around quite a bit with the PPC stuff to get that going, I think it's better for me to if I can get LInuxLite onto my Macbook first.
But I did want to thank you folks who responded for providing the links and suggestions. BTW, I do a lot of searching for stuff by myself, I just asked folks here as I thought you would be more up on things, you were and that did save time.

Hello!

UIAM, unfortunately, there is no version of Linux Lite available for the PowerPC platform...

Yes, I knew there wasn't a LinuxLite version for the PPC platform, the last part of my message was referring to my macbook which is Intel based, already got it going in virtual box.

Id like to look into getting LinuxLite working on an old PPC (pre-Intel Mac)....or at least a setup like Lite. Seeing debian (and ubuntu) have now put out current versions for PPC I wondered if I took a cut down debian distribution like Finnix (has a working current PPC version) and added to it, if a PPC Lite could be created.
certainly would be great to revive those old Macs out there.

I had a screen problem, with one of my dells D810, repartitioned Hard drive , added a linux swap partition, 2GB with/using Gparted on a disk. I think I heard the swap should at least be as big as your RAM plus Your Vid card on board ram if any, but I know little, but watch a lot of You Tube tutorials. Any thing you want fix to they got some one making a video of that...I, was going to have a cyct removed, after watching the DumbAss's do it your self crowd, I was glad to pay the Doc.
